The upcoming issue of People includes a first look at Saoirse as Melanie/Wanderer in the upcoming book-to-film adaptation of The Host!

Twilight and Host fans know that the film is based on the sci-fi book of the same title by Stephenie Meyer.

A trailer is due out later today, and when it is released, we’ll share it with you!

Check out the photo below and see the issue on newsstands this Friday.

Thanks to The Lexicon for the tip.

Stunning actress – Looking forward to The Host

Actually………this is awesome casting.  I was wondering who could do this part.  I like.

    • Mad The Saxon

Ronan is an excellent choice! But Irons has a hard time convincing me that he’s a good Jared…

  • http://booksandcastles.blogspot.com/ Sarah

I’m still skeptical, but Ronan looks great. I just hope they don’t turn this into a “teenage” movie, because the book was quite adult.

    • W. Rose

I’d be mad if they do that, because The Host is marketed as an adult novel.

  • 7Starrchasers

YAY! Dark hair….but im yet to be fully convinced. Can’t wait for the trailer!

  • Lily

how are they gonna translate all the internal dialogue onto the screen? i hope they don’t do something tacky like have two melanies having conversations with each other…

    • Victoria

I think if they did it right and if Saoirse is a really good actress, they could pull off something like that and make it work.  The two Melanies woulds have to look different somehow, there’d have to be something to distinguish which is which.  They could also have the real Mel be Wanda’s reflection or something, which would be pretty cool (again, only if done right).

    • James

I havent read the book as I’m not a fan of stephanie Meyer so I googled it and the plot does look interesting …As for your question,my biggest worry was when I heard Saoirse was signed for this movie  was, what the hell is Saoirse signing up these kind of teen roles with no depth?she is a oscar nominee!!..and ur question answered mine..i guess she took the role as it was a really difficult role and she needed to dub two voices with different tone and personality ..she seems to masters accents well and this role would showcase her talent more

      • Perrrre

You actually have no idea of the character depth, since you said ”
I havent read the book as I’m not a fan of stephanie Meyer”
This book is nothing at all like Twilight.

It is actually not very wise to make such assumptions.

    • Katie

Maybe they could have Melanie’s voice me a voice-over and when Wanda is speaking she will actually move her lips. I think that could work well when they are trekking across the desert, but would be really weird when they’re in front of other people.

      • Katie

        Melanie’s voice be** a voice-over

  • Rdh014

Not a big Twilight fan, but I loved The Host, and I think it proves that Stephenie is a thoughtful, intelligent writer. Looks like it’s going to be great and I can’t wait to see what this fabulous Actress does with this role.

I’m really worried about this. The Host was actually very good, compared to Twilight. And the Twilight movie had the potential to be a decent movie WAY back when Emily Browning was being considered for the job, but it was ruined by bad casting and bad directing. I really hope they don’t mess this one up, because I was a big fan of this book when it came out.

  • TeamBella76

Loved the book and I think they’ve found a way of portraying the two characters which I’m excited to see ! Here’s the HQ pictures on People.  http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20580919,00.html

I thought Melanie was supposed to be dark-skinned and athletic? I was picturing someone more like Zoe Saldana for the part honestly. So disappointing!

wasnt who i was expecting???????? i thought she was tall athletic tanned???

    • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

Physicality doesn’t factor in as much in book adaptions, personally. It would be nice to have someone who loooks how the character is imagined, but at the end of the day, Saoirse IS beautiful, and she does have the chops to pull of a dual personality role.

When I read the Host I remember thinking “Why is everyone making a fuss of Twilight when this is CLEARLY a better book?”

Hope they do it right :)

    • Mad

      Completely agree.

  • Dreamer

I always like this book better than twilight and I REALLY hope that they don’t try to make it like twilight. It’s more adult with deeper messages and themes (in my opinion) and is sci-fi.

More of Stephenie Meyer’s stuff…just what we need to help make the world a more unintelligent place.
I haven’t read The Host though so maybe I’m wrong about it being another horrible love story.

  • KitSydney

I’ve always loved Saoirse Ronan and I can’t say there’s anybody better suited for the role than she is. I love the book so much and I sure as hell hope and pray that the movie would give justice to it. Oh, I can’t wait to watch this! Been waiting for this to come out since May last year after I read the book. Fingers crossed!
