Prior to her fame associated with The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence had a great role in 2010′s X-Men: First Class.

Now we’re learning that the sequels for both films may shoot around the same time, causing a conflict.

The Hollywood Reporter notes the issue:

Insiders say the studios are poised for a face-off over the 21-year-old’s schedule as they move ahead with sequels in their respective franchises. Lionsgate is planning to shoot Games follow-up Catching Fire in the summer, for release in November 2013. A source says Fox is considering an early fall shoot for a sequel to 2011′s First Class, which doesn’t yet have a release date, leading to chatter of a potential Lawrence scheduling conflict.

Fox originally cast the Oscar nominee as shape-shifter Mystique in summer 2010, months before Lionsgate chose her as its Katniss Everdeen in March 2011. (Lawrence earned $500,000 for Games, less for the ensemble First Class.) Even though both studios have sequel options, “Fox will win [any conflict],” says an insider. “Their option trumps Lionsgate’s option.”

Both studios deny any conflict, with Fox saying the timing of the First Class shoot is still not set. Says a Lawrence rep, “They are both making accommodations for her.”

All we hope is that it doesn’t push the Catching Fire release date or shooting schedule back!

I actually really enjoyed X-Men: First Class, but it can definitely wait. I need me some Catching Fire.

    • Patty

       Agreed.

Also, a quick correction: First Class was out in 2011, not 2010. :)

      • LB

They said that they cast her in the summer of 2010 and that the release date was in 2011. Read it again.

        • Guest

she was referring a to an error by andrew not the article

  • Mel823

Tough shit LionsGate. She was signed with FOX first, and you knew she was doing a franchise when you hired her.

    • RonWeasley

well to be fair, they didn’t know for sure there would be a first class sequel

      • http://twitter.com/Michaelnono Mike Nolan

They might not of known for sure but if they weren’t assuming that she was that’s kinda foolish of them don’t you think?

        • Mel823

          Exactly.

      • Mel823

I remember Fassbender and McAvoy saying when they signed the initial contract for First Class is was for a multi-picture deal, and that was most likely the case for the majority of the actors, and the sequel was green-lit a month or two after the initial movie’s release, plus, I don’t think J.Law or her people are that stupid not to tell Lionsgate that she’s working on another franchise. LionsGate knew. It’s probably one of the reasons they set a date for Catching Fire so fast, even thought they told fans Hunger Games needed to make $150-$200 million to even justify a sequel.

        • gcw07

They said it would only need to make $100 million domestically to get a sequel. They have the first draft of Catching Fire, but as far as I have read they don’t have anything yet for x-men. I’m sure it will all be fine in the end.

    • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

I agree with Mr. RonWeasley, but also I should point out it’s not like she’s going to be fired from either franchise. They will solve the problem.

      • Mel823

Nobody said she was getting fired. As a matter of fact firing her would be the last thing FOX would want to do because that releases her from her contract with them.

        • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

Exactly! Then there’s really no problem, right??? I have no idea why people are freaking out. Both movies will come out most likely on time and the only thing this is an issue for is Jennifer Lawrence for signing on to 2 franchises. Essentially.

          • Mel823

If you think about it, it’s great press for Jennifer. You have a big studio and a moderately size studio fighting over who gets access to her first. A bit surprised her PR team isn’t running with this story.

          • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

She’s a super lucky actress for sure.

    • Hermione

Hunger games is WAY more important than that other movie. The fan base is bigger for Hunger Games than that x men thing. They will do whatever to keep the fans of HG pleased. X men doesn’t have a huge fan base.

      • Mel823

Who has the bigger fan base is not the issue here, and why the hell should FOX give a rat’s ass about THG fans? You’re nobody to them. And, X-men has been around since the ’60s so they do have the bigger fan base.

        • Hermione

Swearing shows ones immaturity and inability to make a reasonable argument without flipping out.

          • The507thDoctor

X-Men is one of Marvel comics most popular comic books and it’s been going since the 60′s. While The Hunger Games might be very popular with teens at the moment X-men is popular and has been popular for decades. However I find it hard to compare the two as they are both very different from each other.

          • Hermione

You think it’s just popular with teens? That shows how very ignorant you are. I hate the Xmen, and most people I know do as well. It’s not very popular with teens, kids, most adults right now. Hunger Games is.

          • The507thDoctor

I never said “just” with teens. I know a few adults who have read the series, but I was talking in general the readership is mostly teens. And I am not ignorant I just know what i’m talking about.

          • Hermione

            I don’t think you do.

          • moonshoespotter1712

Hermione, it is popular with everyone. Your comments do show your ignorance sadly, as you seem to think the only thing that’s ‘in’ right now is the Hunger Games. Your only argument against X-men is that ‘I hate it and most people I know do to’, which really doesn’t prove anything when most people here are defending it. You wouldn’t even read an opinion because it was too long. Not a very convincing argument on your part, if you ask me.

          • Hermione

Well, so do your comments, sadly. Not once did I say that the only thing that’s in right now is the hunger games. Xmen has been around longer, yes, but hunger games has gotten way more hype surrounding the movie. The fans are more vocal, and plentiful. Enthusiastic one might say. I didn’t even hear about the xmen movie until mmmmm maybe three months ago? I don’t call that a popular movie. Wanna compare the box office numbers in a week? Xmen would loose. Xmen is loosing its charm and popularity because it’s so old, and doesnt appeal to a wide variety of people anymore.

Sure it gained some new fans with the movie, not including myself of course. But not a lot. Hunger games will make a way bigger splash in the theaters I guarantee it.

          • FlamingC

You are totally insane if you think HG is bigger than X-Men. TOTALLY INSANNNEEE everyone here disagrees with you just get over the fact that you are just plain wrong. What are you 12 years old? Lolololololol

          • Hermione

Um no. Older, so don’t make assumptions because it makes you look stupid. Everyone here disagrees with me because you are all old farts. I’m not insane, I speak the truth. And you can go on thinking it, but we’ll see who’s right in a couple days buster. We’ll see. Because I can promise you I’ll be the one lololololololing then. What are you 12? I mean seriously LOLOLOLOL? what the heck….

      • FlamingC

Are you friggin serious?!?! X-Men has a waaaayyy bigger fan base than Hunger Games. X-Men has been around for ages and Hinger Games is pretty new. Most people I know dont even know about hunger games, just one of my friends has read the first book. But EVERYONE I know at least has some knowledge of X-Men. You, ma’am need to get out more

        • Hermione

Oh, I get out plenty. So what if EVERYONE knows about the xmen? Most people know about the hunger games, unless they live under a rock. Knowledge of the thing is not the point. Most people know about and LIKE the Hunger games. More people like the hunger games than xmen. I don ‘t care how long it’s been around. This movie has gotten way more hype than xmen. Just knowing about a movie doesnt make a person a fan. Fanbase is made up of fans, and if you were comparing xmen to HG, xmen would loose.

          • FlamingC

You are out of your mind if you think the hunger games fan base is bigger than the X-Men fan base. Again: YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE.

          • Hermione

I’m out all the freakin time. So shut up because you don’t know what goes on in my life. HG beats xmen any day. Fanbase=check, hype=check, adult, child, teen, elderly audience=check. Oh look, hunger games wins.

          • Jess

I would have to disagree with you, the X-Men fanbase is way bigger than the Hunger Games fanbase.  The Hunger Games fanbase is made up of mostly mid-teens to mid 20′s (this is just a rough number) Of course there are older and younger people who love the Hunger Games as well.   But X-Men has been around for decades, so the fanbase is much larger and the age range of the fans is much larger.

It may seem like the Hunger Games fanbase is bigger right now, but that is just because of all the hype. The Hunger Games fans are have more fans who are in the ‘rabid’ fans group, so they latch on to it and talk about it constantly.  X-Men fans are not as vocal, especially right now because there is not a movie being released in the immediate future.

I’m sorry, but your argument seems to sound like someone who has not really experienced how big the two fandoms truly are. You are probably part of the Hunger Games fandom so you have been surrounded by love for it and have never really experienced the X-Men fandom.

I’m part of both fandoms and love both, but I would have to say that X-Men is definitely bigger. I think that Fox will definitely win out if it comes down to it, because they are the larger studio. She signed a contract with them first, so she would have to honor that contract before the Lionsgate one. But I don’t think it will come down to her having to chose one over the other, I think both studios will work to keep her in both films, because she is such a big draw.

          • Hermione

I’m sorry your comment was so long, I didn’t read it.

      • moonshoespotter1712

You sound a bit ignorant, dissing x-men like that. Sorry.

        • Hermione

I wasn’t dissing, just speaking the truth. Thanks for your concern, though.

  • EmHof

Wouldn’t it be nice if they bumped up the CF shooting schedule so we could get it next summer? It’s nice to dream, huh? I’m sure Lionsgate and Fox will work things out. If X-Men is more ensemble driven, she won’t be needed as much as she will for CF

    • Mel823

If the script is Magneto driven, then she would be needed a lot more.

  • The507thDoctor

As much as Catching Fire is my favourite out of all the Hunger Games books, i’d rather see an X-Men: First Class sequel first

  • gcw07

This stuff happens all the time. They will make it work. Depending upon her role in the overall story of the next X-Men movie who knows if she will even be needed that much.

    • Guest02

i hope they dont downsize her role in xmen because its an interesting take theyre giving to the character and sidelining her wouldn’t give the character justice (similarly to how the cyclops actor in x3 got killed in the movie because of scheduling conflicts with the superman movie)

  • Gary65

This is great news. If Fox will win any conflict, then that could mean that Lionsgate will bring Catching Fire shooting forward and we could get it even sooner. Nov 2013 is already far too wide a gap to extend any longer and, given today’s reviews, they know it would be disastrous to recast Katniss and go ahead without Jennifer. This could be a good thing.

    • Guest

They can’t move it up. Jen is shooting Serena most of spring and the script isn’t ready.

      • Gary65

Well they don’t have much of a choice so they better write faster.

        • gcw07

There is no script for x-men though at all. Not even a rough draft. So for all we know her character will play a minor role in the next movie. It will all be fine, they will work it out. You just move things around and film other parts until she is available.

  • Jenn

As long as Catching Fire gets filmed sometime, it doesn’t matter. :-)

  • http://twitter.com/angrykittykj Krystol

Several weeks ago Hypable was talking about all of her new movies that she has signed on for. My guess at the time was that something like this was going to happen. I’m really not surprised. Honestly, if it comes down to it, I hope she chooses X-Men over Catching Fire.

  • http://twitter.com/SlySound Brett H

Perhaps they’ll fast track Catching Fire

  • http://twitter.com/Factuality Factuality

I should think that because the characters of The Hunger Games are supposed to be a certain age, they’d want to expedite Catching Fire. Either way, I’m sure Jennifer Lawrence will make whatever choice is right for her career and her family, and surely following the success of movie #1, Lionsgate will have some weight to throw around with Fox.

  • 7Starrchasers

I love them both so I can’t really decide..however, I’m intrigued that she got pain 1/2 a million…wonder how much they’ll get for catching fire?

    • FlamingC

Seems kinda low for an Oscar nodded actress in a big franchise, doesn’t it?

      • moonshoespotter1712

hmm, but she’s still relatively new and inexperienced. Doesn’t mean she isn’t a fantastic actress though.

  • FlamingC

Well First Class came out almost a year before Hunger Games, so it would only make sense that we see the new X-Men movie first. Also, HG isn’t even out yet, so we can’t know for sure that it will be an insane hit (even though it is likely that it will be, still nobody knows for sure). So X-Men first, Catching Fire later. Sorry HG fans :P

  • HG

Who’s gonna play Finnick and Johanna!!!???

  • http://twitter.com/acjub CK

But I want both of those films!

  • Nellajella

i just hope they don’t make her drop out of something…
