The upcoming adaptation of the wildly popular novel The Mortal Instruments has finally found a director. Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) is set to direct Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) for a set production date of August 15.

Here’s a synopsis of the novel:

In the series’ first book “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones”, set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Said producer Robert Kulzer on the appointment of Swart:

“Harald Zwart really understands the visuals and heart of The Mortal Instruments. That was
crucial to us. Of course, having [author] Cassandra Clare’s support throughout and collaborating with her
on this project has been especially rewarding.”

Are you happy with Zwart and Collins for the film?

I don’t appreciate or hate his work. I’ll wait to see.

I remember that I used to like Agent Cody Banks…

The way this is written makes it sound like Zwart is only going to be directing Collins, not the entire movie.  I know that’s probably not true, but the article needs to be clearer.

I’ve never heard of the director, tbh. But the film is going to bomb so hard so it doesn’t even matter. The entire fandom (with the exception of maybe 10%) absolutely loathes Jamie as Jace. No amount of makeup can fix his face.

They bombed so hard on the casting it is sad…..

is this film even still going on? there is no information on it on IMDB and all news stories on producers/cast/director is old now…
