Simon Cowell and company are actively searching for hosts and judges to fill the empty slots left open following the mass firings that went on after X Factor season one.

Now we’re learning that Darren Criss was offered a job hosting the talent show!

E! Online broke the news, but Criss fans needn’t get too happy or sad:

Mr. Criss politely declined the gig, according to a source.

The Fox show’s original host, Steve Jones, was dumped for the upcoming second season as were judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

I’m told Criss decided not to join Simon Cowell & Co. because of his busy schedule, plus he’d rather spend his time singing and dancing than hosting. “They were after him,” a show insider said. “But there’s no way he could have done it with everything he has going on.”

Do you think Criss would have made for a great host? Steve Jones, X Factor’s season one judge, was let go after not living up to expectations.

My opinion: While Criss is obviously very talented, I don’t think we could have been any better than Jones when it comes to hosting.

I agree with Andrew.  Darren Criss is very talented, but I don’t see him as a great host.

i’m happy he chose to stick with actually doing what he loves rather than just watching others do it.

He has too big of a personality to host X Factor, I think…unless you want the host to sing out the results. :P

I can so picture him doing that, just like he sang his Rolling Stone interview.  It would be amazing.

I think Darren agreed with your statement Andrew, which is why he declined. Though he would have raked in a nice couple mil.

He’s way too talented to be stuck hosting the X factor. He’s got movies and plays to do!

I think he could make an awesome host, but he’s more suited to singing and dancing definitely. It sounds to me that they’re trying to get some big names on the show so people watch it….Idk about anyone else, but I got bored with X Factor really fast during the 1st Season…

    Praise God!!!

Darren would have brought in the younger demographic + Glee fans, which is probably why the hosting position was offered to him.

And he would have brought the starkids. Don’t forget us starkids. ;)

But I agree. focus on your dancing and singing skills, Darren. :)

i can not see him doing it love him to desth but i just can not see him holding a show like that

  • notenoughpuff

It certainly would have gotten more viewers if he had accepted the offer.

Ummm if Darren was the host I would watch every minute of every episode! Hell I would even try out for the show just so I could possibly meet him

Hey Rox your Darren fangirl is showing

  • Jen

Thank god, of course he’s way too smart for that :D

Hosting is for people in need of a rebound; his career is still ascending.  It’d be premature to settle for a reality job.  Glad he’s focusing on more important work.

Thank God.  This would have been a complete and total waste of Darren’s unbelievable talents.

He can do anything. But he really could be using his time better….. like a threequell perhaps??

  • Euphoriose

Gosh, I’m actually happy he declined now that I think about it. It’s great that he’s so dedicated to Glee, and I don’t know, Darren’s always talked about how “no one can take music away from you” and stuff, and sometimes on shows like that they just say that people shouldn’t pursue music anymore. I don’t think he would like turning people down, and you could tell he was a little uncomfortable on the Glee project when they were trying to make a final decision with Ryan. I like that he doesn’t go after things just for the hell of it, that he actually has a mission in mind. I definitely support him with what he does.

He couldn’t have pulled it off, anyways.

I think he has bigger and better things to do, but if Simon Cowell is pursuing him…damn! Hollywood is taking notice!
