Controversial new ‘Game of Thrones’ poster released featuring Ned Stark

A new Game of Thrones poster has been released, featuring… Sean Bean? Well, kind of. Warning: this is not for the faint of heart.

Interesting marketing strategy. But smart: it allows HBO to put Sean Bean (the main face of season 1) on a poster for another year, and they also establish the lingering effects Ned Stark’s choices will have on the story.

  Do you really need blood when you’ve got a mans head on a spike? I think the poster’s pretty awesome though, if not a bit spoilery for those two people who haven’t seen it yet, or at least managed not to hear about what happened to Ned’s Head.

    I knew Ned was beheaded (poor sean bean most of his characters get killed and in gruesome ways)
    
    but did Joffrey also really put Ned’s head on a spike>???!!
    
    if i didn’t thought Joffrey was a hell spawn bastard beforeb i think so know!
    
    hope he gets what’s comming for him- and that it is 100 more gruesome than Ned’s death cause he deserves it.

      Yeah, he really is a monster. We saw it in the last episode where he taunted Sansa with it so she’d know who’s boss. It was pretty sick stuff, and I hope he gets some extreme comeuppance.

Eh..if someone watches the show this shouldn’t bother them at all. And I imagine they aren’t slapping these up just anywhere and sticking them in every magazine possible…

I think it’s pretty great. Suits the series perfectly.

I just realized there’s less than three weeks left until the season premiere of the show! Yeah!

And yes, the Game of Thrones poster is nasty to look at, but it fits.

Damn, I wish they hadn’t done this!
The DVDs for season one only just recently came out, and my parents (and I assume a lot of other people) are still watching it for the first time right now. If they see this poster it’s pretty much the biggest spoiler for the first season one I could imagine.
