Ever want to shoot a bow and arrow like Katniss in The Hunger Games? Hypable’s own Jessica Chapman is a skilled archer and is giving you a free archery lesson! Watch as Jessica explains the different types of bows used, including the recurve bow used by Katniss in Part 1 of “The Hunger Games Archery Lesson!”

Thanks to Jessica for sharing her knowledge of bows with Hypable’s Hunger Games fans! Check back later this week for Part 2!

  • Jael

Hey, I got the same exact recurve bow as Jessica!

That’s awesome! How long have you been at it?

      • Jael

I’ve been practicing archery since January 2012.  I decided, as a doable New Years Resolution, to take up a hobby that I have never done before.  Because I had just gotten into the Hunger Games, I decided that I would learn archery.  I’m getting really good (as in I can hit the inner rings of the target with eighteen arrows- the average amount I practice per round).

How long have you been practicing archery?

I just got my bow for Christmas, so since then. I don’t get to practice nearly as much as I would like, but I really love it. I’m not awesome, but I’m not terrible either. ;)

Love Jess on glee chat, but this adds a lot more. This is just… Badass. John better watch out!

Anyways, Thanks for making this video. I’m thinking about starting archery myself, and now I think I will.

Hahahaha, that’s right, John, watch out! ;)

You totally should! It is so much fun!!

I already was afraid of her, so this works.

  • Eoin

This was a great Idea. It’s a nice fandom crossover . Nice Job with that shot at the end Jess, I’m super impressed. I didn’t know you liked the Hunger Games.

    • http://twitter.com/jessoneal84 Jessica O’Neal

Haha, thanks! Yes, I was late to the party (I started reading them last August), but I have now had the Kool-aid. These books rank right up there with HP for me.

      • Eoin

        Me too!

I WANT a Katniss bow SO BADLY!! And I want to learn how to use a bow an arrow! But there are no conveniently empty woods where I live. :/ Also, buying this arrow would be what my mother calls an “unnecessary purchase.” Hmf.

    • http://twitter.com/jessoneal84 Jessica O’Neal

Hahaha, yeah I understand the “unnecessary purchase” thing. I never would have bought it for myself – it was a Christmas gift from my husband. I have always been really interested in archery because of my obsession with all things fantasy which tend to feature the bow and that interest was only heightened when I had to research it for my own book. When I read The Hunger Games it was like icing on the cake. It is SO much fun!

I’m with you! Always been interesting in bow and arrow, and I’ve always wanted to try XD

      • http://hypable.com Selina

If we ever meet up you must teach me! It looks like so much fun.

        • http://twitter.com/jessoneal84 Jessica O’Neal

          You got it!

  • Jessica

Hehe I’ve shot that bow before! Super awesome day that was. I love this and can’t wait to see more. And Jess, I want to shoot it again! :)

      Come on over any time!!

      • http://www.archeryretail.com/ William

        Yes..U r right.I am agree..Thanks.

  • Anh022

Great work with the video. Unique idea to post something like this in advance of the movie.

    • http://twitter.com/jessoneal84 Jessica O’Neal

      Thank you!

  • Polepick

The movie happens just as there is a huge renaissance going on in traditional (non compound) archery. I suggest getting G. Fred Asbel’s “Advanced Instinctive Archery” if you want to learn more. And BTW crossbows are not bows and most archers hold them in low regard.

      U r right…I am agree this lines.Thanks for sharing.

    Best video for compound bow.
