‘The Hunger Games’ now on track to beat ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1′ at box office

The numbers keep getting better and better for The Hunger Games. A couple weeks ago the film was tracking very high – a number that “studios can only dream about” if you recall – and since then reports have grown even stronger.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the film is now on track to beat Breaking Dawn – Part 1 which pulled in $138 million at the box office this past November.

With this information in mind, the first film in The Hunger Games series looks to be set to do much better than the first Twilight film ($93 million domestic opening weekend).

It’s great news for Lionsgate who recently acquired Twilight studio Summit.

Oh, and Andrew, there are tons of new reviews being released, all positive! One even says the film is a sci-fi classic.

WOAH. That’d be amazing if it manages that.

Note to Andrew: these numbers are opening weekend, most of this post sounds like you’re talking about full grosses. Also, this is just the North American box office.

Um Hypable, what the heck is wrong with you guts lately? Yesterday we had that fanmade “TVD” poster, and now you all made a HUGE mistake: “Twilight”‘s opening weekend gross was $69 million, not $93 million. Edit and proof-read your stories before publishing them.

This is stupid ! Twilight is loved by women and Hunger Games appeals to both of course it would make more money. Twilight in it’s own right doesn’t need to be compared too it’s different in every way ! TIRED OF THESE STUPID COMPARISONS.

While this is potentially good news, I just hope it can actually meet it. All I really care about is it making $100 million so we can get the sequel. From this tracking it looks like it will meet that goal, but you never know until it actually happens.

From what I’ve heard I’m pretty sure the film will do incredibly well in America but I’m not so sure about the rest of the world. In the UK we’ve barely had any publicity (unless you watch E4) and my local cinemas haven’t even put up posters yet. I hope the film does well worldwide but they need a much bigger marketing push.

I’m not at all surprised. There’s a huge gap between the Potter grosses and the Twilight ones, I kind of figured The Hunger Games would fall somewhere in the middle.
