The official Pottermore Insider has finally announced the release date for all users to Pottermore, along with an update on the beta progress.

April 2012. That’s the date! The blog goes onto to say that there have been some fairly large-scale changes behind the scenes to do with the architecture that Pottermore runs on ensuring the new facilities better support all the millions of people anxious to give the system a try.

We gathered some incredibly useful feedback from our Beta users, and it became clear that our original platform wouldn’t be suitable when millions more users came on to the site. So we made a big decision: to move Pottermore to an entirely different platform set up. This ‘invisible’ change has involved a lot of work behind the scenes but it will enable our users to get the best from Pottermore as it grows and develops.

There have definitely been some challenges and the whole Pottermore team has been working really hard to incorporate all the Beta activity and feedback. This means that over the coming weeks and months we’ll be adding exclusive content and many more exciting features (such as sounds) to Pottermore for you to explore, share and discover.

What do you think this “exclusive” content will mean? Will J.K. Rowling have contributed even more?

  • aminie

    Sounds! :D

  • http://twitter.com/LiamFloyd Liam Floyd

Pottermore, this is your chance to either do something really good or really bad. Don’t mess this up!

    • Celia

Yeah, and if they screw up again I think that many people will just simply give up. Or if they postpone it again.

  • MichiganPotter

Finally! As a super fan, I will probably set aside my disappointment that this was so delayed, and be excited to finally finally joint Pottermore (as long as they don’t delay again, haha)

  • Kimmee

    Its a miracle!!!!

  • DreamNox58

It’s depressing that I don’t even care.  I have an account already but I don’t care to see any changes.  The first time around was not worth all my time and there is no point in visiting a disappointment.

  • Desiree

how much longer for the ebooks!!

  • Emily Brett

I don’t know whether to be excited about this or just really, really nervous.

  • http://twitter.com/HP4eva121995 Ally

New stuff from Jo will be the only thing bringing me back to pottermore.

  • Sarah

Honestly, I was sorted and that’s all I wanted. All of the extra content will probably be posted on a website somewhere, so I’ll read it there instead of battling with the mess that was and probably still will be Pottermore.

  • Jennifer Scheidegger

Very glad to hear that they will be adding sound. No sound or music was the most irking thing about it for me. And am I to take this as they are adding even more exclusive content?!

  • sza22

meh. ill probably check it out, but im not expecting it to be good.

  • upper_westsider

I’m glad to hear they’ll be using a different platform and I hope it makes a real difference.  Makes me a little nervous when they say the original platform wouldn’t be suitable for millions more users.  Fact is it wasn’t suitable for the million Beta users they had.  I want Pottermore to succeed.  I hope they’ve got it right now.

  • ravenclaw1991

SOUNDS!!! haha, that kind of excited me so much I misspelled “sounds” at first xD Finally though! We’ve been waiting forever! I WANT CHAMBER OF SECRETS AS SOON AS IT OPENS!! I want something new to do, not Philosopher’s Stone again..

    • writeworld

I hope they have Wizard’s chess or some other game besides dueling to play with my fellow Ravenclaws. I can’t wait for CoS, but I’ll take all the content I can get!

      • Plat

Yea wizards chess would be so fun! And I can totally see how they could make it.

        • writeworld

YES THANK YOU! It would be AMAZING. Get on it, Pottermore!

  • http://twitter.com/acjub CK

Now I’m actually excited for it again, I hope they got it right this time!

  • http://twitter.com/NiallJAdams Niall Adams

Seriously, if Pottermore wants to make itself better, they need to fix the terrible social features. Firstly being able to see someone’s real name would be nice so we know who we’re adding as friends. Secondly, they need to either fix the moderation on the comments (especially so numbers can be used) and maybe open a separate place for fans to talk about the series in depth (something which is impossible in it’s current state). Also Chamber Of Secrets would be nice and maybe more things to do in the moments, instead of just a picture.

However, I like that they’ve confirmed sounds as it was something I felt the site was lacking when I played through the moments and was still checking it most days. Hopefully, they’ll release any of the new feautures and changes during the Beta period to test them.

    • writeworld

The point of not seeing people’s real names is to protect the under-eighteens who are on the site. It’s problem for us to not know who’s trying to add us as a friend, but that’s not nearly as big a problem for me as the SLOW AS CRAP moderation they have. You are totally right! BUT, it is just Beta. Maybe they’re not fussed about moderating us as much.

Maybe they could have fan moderators or something. Like, users who mod-ed for/with them who were chosen by the admins as volunteers. What do you think?

      • http://twitter.com/NiallJAdams Niall Adams

I thought maybe some of the beta users who have consistently used the site, given feedback and useful comments may be offered a role like moderators. On the point of usernames Pottermore already have different security settings for under 13′s so they might be able to allow over 16′s to see others and give their own name. Don’t know if it will be possible but it would certainly make it easier to interact with other fans, especially since you can’t even type a username to respond to a comment without it being blocked due to numbers

        • writeworld

I guess I knew that the security settings were different for under-thirteens, but I hadn’t really thought about specifying that over-thirteen to over-thirteen communication to be a bit freer. over-thirteen to under-thirteen communication may be restricted, but there’s no good reason for adults to remain anonymous to each other, especially since we kinda wanna know when our friends add us as friends (I know I won’t add a Slytherin unless I know them personally).

Blocked due to numbers? You mean you can’t do something like @so-and-so to show people who you’re talking to? I haven’t looked that closely at the comment sections, since the comment I made on the Ravenclaw main page the first day has YET to be posted.

I think it would be a very good idea for them to bring on user moderators. It works for Wikipedia, and it can work for Pottermore.

          • http://twitter.com/NiallJAdams Niall Adams

All numbers are deleted (I presume so that people can give out phone numbers) and words in the usernames are moderated so you can’t have a real conversation. I know some members get around this by using nicknames and roman numerals

          • writeworld

Oh. Weird. I didn’t know that.

    • Mia

I totally agree. They need to change their social features. I had friends in Beta where I didn’t know who was who. The security measures are for children under 13, but most of Jo’s loyal fans are grown up. I’m not saying all, but the majority of Jo’s fans are ones that grew up with Harry, so we shouldn’t be “punished” (lack of a better word).

    • Liderc

Agreed.  I would rather them keep delaying than release it as is.  It’s really not even worth being on right now.  It has no feeling of community, it’s like a ghost town where you click your mouse until either your finger breaks or your mouse button breaks.

  • betabored

    oh, thank god.

  • katnissfan

  • Luna

YESSSSSS :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD  can’t wait for the new stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!….I’m really excited…couldn’t you tell?

  • Ncnapper92

If they for real restart it, I am getting sorted first before I even think of collecting items. I got zero housepoints for all the items I collected before I got to the sorting page which really sucked.

  • katnissfan

Does “April 2012″ mean April 1st or April 30th?

    • Hagrid’s Coat

       that’s what i was wondering. “April 2012″ is not a date, it’s a month.

      • writeworld

That’s better than “sometime in the future”! I’ll take it!

  • stargazer

I’m not one of the beta users, so I’m excited that this is happening!  I really hope it works! (I’ll probably wait a little while since I’m betting so many people will be on the site the first time it opens that, new server or not, it’ll probably lag a bit)  I wonder what the new content will be…Chamber of Secrets?  For those of you who had beta and have already been through Philosophers Stone, I hope so, but I’m betting it’s more classes or something like that instead.

  • http://www.jacobaaron.net DotPdf

Really excited about sounds! The only thing that concerns me is that all this time was spent on the backend and not the front end. Don’t get me wrong, the ability to support millions of people at a time is a necessity for a project of this scale, but if people lose interest there is no need for that kind of infrastructure. I was kind of hoping that they were working on beta feedback from the start instead of waiting until now.

    • Plat

Im pretty sure they were working on all the aspects, not just the new platform.

  • Dlmarvin05

Maybe someone over there saw my Pottermore Sickness article xP

You guys don´t be soo negative! Imagine this is something that is being given to us FREE, ENTIRELY FREE! And they´ve taken their time to read OUR complains on the site. For istance, thanks to our comments they are adding SOUND! THAT´S GREAT! They also say that more exciting new features and content is to come, so they´ve kinda re-designed the whole site in order to make it more appriciated BY US, THE FANS! I know Pottermore has set our teeth on edge with all the waiting, but it was just to give us a better site, and as a FAN I feel we have been respected and they just want to meet our expecations. So I don´t think they could really screw things up. If anything, they´ll nail it adding whatever they add..POTTERHEADS LET´S BE A BIT LESS CRITICAL AND A BIT MORE UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECTFUL towards a team that has been working to give us the ultimate expericnce for FREE!
I´m really excited, something is always better than nothing!

    • writeworld

I totally agree. It’s free; it’s a gift! I’m excited for new content and I think it’s great to have some optimism in this comments section for a change!

    • Jesse

I agree with you completely. What people are not realizing is is that Pottermore IS the Encyclopedia, (for right now at least) And that there is ONE book of information on there right now. It is going to be better with each added book. Pottermore isn’t about the games and stuff, its about expanding on the books, which it does lovely, the games are just added bonuses.

    • miniwerewolf

Yeah! I mean sometimes I did get a little negitive. Though I always tried not to and I am not one of the Beta people either (thanks to school). So anyway I totally agree that at least having Pottermore (no matter what it is like) is going to be a real treat. Because how many Fandoms can say they have something like this.

  • http://twitter.com/Snapescape Laura Cain

As much as I can understand everyone’s annoyance at the postponements, I think people should stop being so negative. Yes, they said the site would open in October. Yes, people who didn’t get into beta have been waiting a while. But it’s all for a REASON. the Pottermore team have been working their asses off trying to create something for us, the fans, and they’re intent on us enjoying it. I mean look at the great artwork! You don’t just draw that in a day. They want to make it the best they possibly can, they don’t want to disappoint us! So they took a few extra months, big deal. It’s best not to rush things. Sometimes I just think we live in a society where everyone wants everything straight away. What’s more, I think the website was never meant to open straight away: Jo didn’t want the fans to feel too depressed about the end of “an era” (the films, in particular) so she promised us something else, to keep our hopes up.

  • Mrs_Badcrumble

I, like so many other people, was expecting much more. More interaction, more features… more!
But we must remember that this is the beta phase. The test and correct phase. This is the time where they make mistakes and the users are there to help and suggest changes. When we signed for this we knew it was still under construction.

  • writeworld

YAY! I’m already a beta tester on Pottermore, but it’s awesome to know that there will be sounds and MORE content for me to look forward to in April. This is fantastic news! Thank you, Hypable for reporting this and thank you to the Pottermore team for working so hard to make our HP addictions ever more intense!

  • http://www.facebook.com/LillyCGN Ileana M.

I love Pottermore, but to be honest, Want to play the rest of the chapters already and the sight needed some sprucing up… It’s still awesome, and like I said, I love it. But you can see it’s been in BETA this long for a reason… Can’t wait to see the new changes… =]

  • BarkingSpiders

Well, that’s exciting. I’ll definitely have to log back on then to check it out. =)

  • Liderc

Doesn’t say much about making it fun – worried.  All I saw from my complaints if I remember is they’re adding sounds…

  • https://www.youtube.com/TheBabarSuhail Babar Suhail

Who think they are gonna delay it too?

    • Alex

i dont think they have such a death wish

  • Eoin

I hope they tell us when the new stuff will be there so we know.

  • Alohomora

Hard to believe, to be quite honest. And I’m sure Pottermore will suddenly start to become appealing again all of a sudden. All Beta testers, dust off your accounts and leap back in! :P

  • Kavitha

  • http://twitter.com/emilyecstasyTM Twinkie McBadass

I hope that there’s SO much more than what the Beta users got. I know COS won’t be available immediately. We’ll see if it even opens early April…

  • http://dervish-banges.tumblr.com/ Tariq

Is it bad that I’m really not interested in the invisible changes? I want more visible ones to make the site more interesting!

    • Plat

Did nobody read the last sentence: ”
This means that over the coming weeks and months we’ll be adding exclusive content and many more exciting features (such as sounds) to Pottermore for you to explore, share and discover.”  Hello they ARE adding more visible changes too.

      • http://dervish-banges.tumblr.com/ Tariq

Yes, yes I read it. But I’m just being silly and upset over nothing. =P I look forward to those changes I just wished they happened sooner rather than later.

  • jozefd14

7 months delay… 7 books? 7 years at Hogwarts? lol

    • Mia

knew they made us wait for a reason :P

  • WillowBlood

Finally. Thank you thank you thank you.

  • A.P.W.B.Dumbledore

Please make sure to add more excitement when you are updating, right now there is nothing that makes me want to go back.

  • HermioneFan21

I’m just excited about the sounds they mentioned!  :D

  • Glaciusx

In the words of The Doctor, this is your last warning. Take it. DO NOT MESS UP.

  • Corrine Clapp

Im happy that my friend will finally get to find out what house shes in. Im in Slytherin! we’re going to buy shirts with our house crests on them!

  • http://twitter.com/Marauders4ever Kendall Rogers

I’m a beta tester and J.K Rowling HASN’T added anything more… it’s just been updating the Duels and things.

  • http://twitter.com/Andrew_ww Andrew W

April 2012 is the launch date….or is it???

  • jmc

About TIME. I signed up the first month that they allowed you to for beta. Have not recieved ANYTHING from Pottermore yet. Really disappointed by this whole project.

  • Dreamer

I’m happy it’s finally opening to the public. I’m looking forward to checking out the site because I wasn’t able to get in as a beta tester and have been waiting for months for this. However I’m not nearly as excited as I was in october. I was dying to get in and check everything out but the wait and the beta tester complaints have lessened my excitement considerably.

  • LilyLuna

I’ve been in as a beta tester for 7 months now, but I’m really happy for everyone who’s finally going to get to experience it for the first time. I hope the behind the scenes stuff has worked and the site will run smoothly on the launch date.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VCJSDSEDKYOBEKWGIXCDB2QPYA Henry

OMG about time!!! I’m looking forward to J.K. Rowlings, new book more.

  • PotionsMaster007

im bored of pottermore. ive been on it since october cos i was one of the first million. its not all that interesting

  • Mary

Can’t wait! I’m already in, but soooo curious what houses my friends and family will be sorted into when it opens to the public!

  • Gleehead123

    I got in on beta

  • Prettyfairy1996

    i hate pottermore.

    • Harry Potter 1st Fan

      Shut up please!!!

  • Tiarnán Shortt

    about time

  • Caroline

Yeah, April 2012. It’s more likely to be April 20120.

  • Harry Potter 1st Fan

Well good for Pottermore and it’s about time it’s been about 7 to 8 months. But I’m very glad they doing the pubic now. SOME PEOPLE ARE ANNOYING ME, not say

    usernames here.

  • http://twitter.com/Tygridia Tygridia

I learnt from the beta experience. When they reopen it with new features, I’m gonna read the book while using the website. Would take hours to finish it and will be better…

  • http://twitter.com/andrewgoldie16 andrew

Now that Pottermore is opening to the public will we finally get Chamber of secrets?

  • Juss.

I do think they should not be setting any release dates until they are entirely, 100% sure it is ready without any glitches. 9 months is a long time to wait and people, including myself, are going to be over it very soon.

  • Moonshoes Potter

When in April??? I’ve been waiting since the beginning! I missed the beta chance, but I want to join! Hurry up already!
