The nominations for the 2012 Empire Awards have been released, with Drive, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Rise of the Planet of the Apes all receiving several nods each. The biggest surprise, however, comes in the form of no less than 5 nominations for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Potter received noms in Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Daniel Radcliffe), Best 3D Film and Best Newcomer for Bonnie Wright. You can vote in the awards now over on Empire.

The three biggest contenders at the Academy Awards, ‘The Artist’, ‘The Help’ and ‘The Descendants’ are nowhere to be seen, which identifies these awards as quite different to most of the other major ceremonies.

    Bonnie Wright? ReallY?

  • Morsmordre79

    Bonnie Wright…as “newcomer?” Well that’s interesting…

    • kate

hasnt she been their since the first film? i’d hardly call her a new comer

      • Jenn

yeah, but who knew her since the first film? Empire Awards is awarding them based on when they became famous. It’s basically ‘best up and coming actor’. She could not have possibly gotten that for the first film.

        • Hermione Granger

She was pretty main in Chamber of Secrets though… and Half-Blood Prince… and Part 1… so no, it still makes no sense.

          • Jenn

I didn’t know who she was until DH2. I mean, she was just Ginny. But come DH2, I knew who Bonnie Wright was as a person. I think the majority of public felt the same way. Besides, pretty much everyone on that list has been acting a while. Elle Fanning’s been acting since she was about 2. Super 8 is what made her became well known though. Much like Bonnie. Look at as ‘best up and coming actress’ since that’s basically what it is.

    About bloody time!

  • Alohomora

Funny how a magazine, reflecting public opinions (mostly) nominates Potter when Academy Awards do not.

  • Angela

I wouldn’t really consider Bonnie Wright a newcomer but okay, good on her.

  • Luigi_barraza

Finally, someone to aknowledge the film’s achievements….

  • Hermione Granger

    Best newcomer? Hahahaha…

  • Laura

Congrats to DHP2, but some of these noms are bizarre. Bonne Wright is a newcomer? News to me. And True Grit came out in 2010, so it already had its runthrough with awards season  last year – Hailee Steinfeld was nominated for the Oscar in 2011…

  • Jennifer

I’m actually really happy for Bonnie Wright. She gets a lot of unfair hate from the Potter fandom for what I think comes down to bad writing. I think she’s a sweetheart and wish her luck post-Potter. Congrats to her on the nom! Also congrats to all the other Potter noms. :D Rooting for her and Dan.

  • Jennifer

Though I agree labeling her a ‘newcomer’ is a bit odd. I wouldn’t exactly call Elle Fanning or Hailee Steinfeld newcomers either. That category needs a different title.

  • Beckybaby1996

Bonnie got a nomination, but at Alan Rickman!

  • Santiarof

Congrats to Potter… hope it wins all of them! It’s great the movie gets the recognition it deserves!
