Last night’s 84th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Billy Crystal, were up from last year by 4%.

The official rating for 2012 was 25.5/38, which is up from last year’s rating of 24.5/37.   The numbers are determined by household – for every 38 households televisions on between 8:30pm – 11:24pm EST, 25.5 of them were tuned into the Academy Awards.

Deadline also reports:

Among adults 18-49, the Oscars delivered a 14.3 rating in Nielsen’s Local People Meter markets, on par with last year’s 14.4 despite having a host host, Billy Crystal, whose age was the ages of last year’s co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway combined.

Did you think the 2012 Oscars were better than 2011?

Last night’s show was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. Billy Crystal should host every year.

It would have been better if Harry Potter won at least one Oscar.  And if they cut out the damn montages.  And included the Best Song performances.

        harry potter blah blah blah

      • RussellTurner

Yeah. It truly is a shame that Harry Potter will go down as the most snubbed franchise of all time. Yes, i wish there would have been the music, and more than 2 nominees for it.

it was nominated 3 times and somehow lost all of them.

I really liked the montages. I thought they were great!

  • Josh

And yet, last night’s show was terrible.

  • Laura

Not surprising. Even though the winners were, for the most part, predictable and I didn’t agree with all of them, Billy Crystal was MUCH better than James Franco and Anne Hathaway. There’s a reason he’s hosted the show 9 times. Also, the Cirque Du Soleil performance was amazing.

Still would have liked the see the Best Song nominees perform, but oh well.

Am I the only one who really really really really wants the Muppets to host the Oscars. I think it would clever and hilarious. But of course it will never happen.   :(

    • Steph

yes yes yes:) that would be amazing!

  • Rose

thats odd seeing as almost every harry potter fan refused to watch it. And thats a lot of ppl!!

    • Steph

i think a lot of fans said they wouldn’t watch it but then did anyway just in case it won something (like i did)

I think David Heyman should host it next year just to shit on everyone- but I bet someone from the Hobbit will host it instead.

Yes it was way better. No offence to Anne Hathaway or James Franco but you don’t get a better host than Billy Crystal. @c8fed4fd473ca6cfe1fadc4fd6beb693:disqus Muppets hosting the oscars would be Amazing! Miss Piggy should act like a complete diva against Meryl Streep or something
