J.K. Rowling tweets that new book will be out this year

After the announcement by JK Rowling’s publishers yesterday that she will be releasing a new book for adults, many speculated whether the book would be out in 2012 or not.

All that debate is finished now, as she herself tweeted “As you may have heard, I have a new book out later this year. Very different to Harry, although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much.”

Nothing more specific was revealed, but when the announcement is made we will bring it to you immediately.

I’ve only just noticed the past-tense in all of the announcements – “enjoyed”. I was under the impression that the book was not complete, or this was just announcement that more books would be coming. So now that’s she’s finished it, it’ll only be the editing, finalizing, then printing left – so would it be safe to say that we can expect the book by summer?

  Editing, finalizing, and printing can take a while. If it’s out by summer then I’m betting it’s already been back and forth between JKR and the publisher several times.

    I work in publishing – though our books ARE NOT nearly as intense as novels – and we’re already printing books for 7/1/12 deliveries. I would assume that this book is in the ABSOLUTE final stages.

I know that everyone is very excited but I cant help but feel a little apprehensive. After the whole Pottermore fiasco and the way they built up all this hype and withheld information to build interest and make things more mysterious (just like what they are doing now with this new book), I cant help but feel a little nervous that maybe this is going to flop like Pottermore did? I don’t know if I can trust Rowling to know what she is doing anymore.
