J.K. Rowling joins million-follower club on Twitter, no longer describes herself as ‘children’s author’

Though her tweets so far have been quite boring, today Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling surpassed one million followers on the social networking Twitter.

Rowling first joined Twitter in September 2009 and teased that she didn’t have much time to tweet because “pen and paper” were her priority. Yesterday we finally found out exactly what she was prioritizing.

Until yesterday, her Twitter bio read, “Children’s author.” Today it reads, “Author.”

Last month I wrote about several ways I thought Rowling could easily improve her Twitter account.

At this point if she ever tweeted something normal about her daily life, we’d all freak out. “Just came back from shopping.” would elicit responses like “OMG. IS THIS FOR HER NEW BOOK?” and “This must mean something. *tries to decrypt*”

Really need to get over the whole boring Twitter account thing. I’m sure she’s not Tweeting because she’s busy writing. Just be patient, we’ll know more about the book in due time.

    Another way to get to 1 million followers is by being famous, important, or talented – all of which she is. Heck, I look at the list of people I’m following on Twitter, half of them are celebrities I love, and a good amount of them never post. Why am I following them?? I dunno.

if she tweeted tons, everyone would want her to stop and write. If she didnt (which she doesnt) it might mean shes writing. Surely no tweets is a good thing?

I don’t understand. When it said “children’s author” I felt mad and defensive, in a “Harry isn’t just for children!!” kind of way. Now that it just says “author” I’m feeling nostalgic. What is going on?!

  We were young when we first had HP PS. It’s consumed our childhood and teenage years.She still writes for us. Only this time, we are adults. I also feel very nostalgic. You reckon she’ll write another series?

    You know, I hate how everyone says that the true Potter fans are adults now. You guys grew up with them, well you know we did too. I started in second grade and now I’m almost in high school. I waited at midnight for the movies. I read the books as soon as they came out! It really ticks me off! Your post made me mad, like she only writes for you! Not all of her fans who grew up with Harry Potter are adults yet! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR SKULLS!!!!!!

      I do agree. I started on them when I was 6 and I am now nearly 16, a High school sophomore. I think perhaps some forget that currents teens have been with the series just as long, they only started at a much younger age.
      
      However, I don’t think this new adult novel is meant to exclude the teenage fans. I read adult books very often now. Teens are going to be perfectly capable of reading this new book and I’m sure JK Rowling knows that.

I like that she only tweets every so often. When she does it makes all of her fans so excited, like a little kid on Christmas. If she did it all the time, no one would really find it as interesting, they’d get bored.

I actually got a twitter in the first place because I saw that Jo had one XD. Also, 95% of the people I follow are Potter-famous in some way (or related to Quidditch) :).
