Today it was announced that hunger charity Feeding America, World Food Programme, and The Hunger Games have fittingly teamed up for a good cause.

They are looking for fans to donate $5 to feed at least 20 people who need food most:

The Hunger Games movie, World Food Programme and Feeding America want you to join us in the fight against hunger. No matter where you live, hunger isn’t as far away as you might think – often, it is right around the corner. But by teaming up, we can build a better future for hungry children and families all over the world. Are you in?

More about the program can be learned at this special website. Hunger Games cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson can be seen in the video below putting out a call to fans for donations:

What an awesome idea! Great campaign and so fitting with the theme of the story.

This is why books like Harry Potter and the Hunger Games are more than just books. They speak to real issues in the world.
Unlike another popular young adult fiction book where the biggest problems are which boy is sexier and will he suck my blood while he watches me sleep?

I am really happy that they are doing something like this. At first I was worried that Lionsgate only cared about the money and THG being successful by taking the ‘Capitol’ approach, but doing this has changed my views entirely. Hunger, no doubt, is a very important problem in the world today and I am glad that Lionsgate realizes the impact they can have in solving this with all the support from the fans.
I couldn’t be more proud of being in this fandom.

      i totally agree.

I was hoping so badly that HG would do something like this!!!  I’m in a World Hunger Lyceum at my university, and people don’t really realize how prevalent hunger could be in their own community.  I’m soooo excited about this!!!  Maybe now there will be increased awareness, and we CAN make a difference!

This is awesome. It’s rallying us to translate our fervor for the books into real life action. Sometimes we can be passive about the problems in our society and this is a reminder that we can do something.

I think the cast should be doing more promotions like this. I mean, what better way to promote the actual message of books/film by taking action against poverty?
