As we’ve been telling you, Lionsgate’s acquisition of Summit (and their Twilight property) brought the CEO of the enhanced parent company to say he’d be very interested in creating additional Twilight films if Stephenie Meyer were to write more books.

But Meyer has absolutely no plans for that, it now seems.

A reporter from Variety tweeted the following this evening:

HUNGER GAMES presales begin tomorrow; early tracking shows it outpacing the first TWILIGHT pic. My theory as to why: Safe for boys. As long as we’re on topic: Stephenie Meyer was deeply annoyed that LG brass said they’d do more TWILIGHT pics. She has no such intention.

We’re unsure of how he got this information about Meyer’s reaction, but we trust his accuracy.

Fans shouldn’t be surprised by the author’s lack of intention to write new Twilight books. She has said numerous times in the past that she’s ready to move on from vampires.

Thanks to His Golden Eyes for the tip.

Earlier today, Rob Pattinson shared his thoughts on the topic of additional films.

  • Rdh014

Good for you Stephenie, way to see past their greedy pretenses.

  • Jael

    Kudos to you Stephenie.

  • HungaGurl

thank God cuz they would suck

  • http://twitter.com/HungerGames4all Rae

I can’t believe I am saying this but I agree with Stephenie. We don’t need any more Twilight, I mean splitting BD was enough!! If this happens this would be unfair for Harry Potter!

    • Enelya

How could it possibly be unfair for Harry Potter?  If Stephanie Meyer writes more books, they’ll make more movies.  If Jo decided to write more books WB would be all over them to make movies

    • http://www.youtube.com/fravit Fravit

Unfair for Harry Potter? How does this article have anything to do with Harry Potter?

    • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

Oh good lord, not everything is about Harry Potter. First THG isn’t written the same way, so it’s not as good, and Suzanne Collins was trying to rip off a story about a boy wizard by writing a book about a girl forced to kill other teenagers and become the face of an uprising? And now Twlight making mmore movies woul effect it? HOW?
Not a fan of Twilight. Not a fan of HP, but then, I haven’t gotten to finish reading the first book, let alone the series. But some fans…I mean, they are books, they spawned successful movies, now they’re finished, not everything that happens in the teen-book-adaption world needs to have something to do with HP.

      • Hermione A

I think you just started replying senselessly because if you read the persons comment you are replying to, it says nothing about Suzanne ripping off the Harry potter books.

        • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

I’m aware, but I’m referring to some (emphasis on the ‘some’) Potter fans who say that some books – completely different, and removed from Harry Potter – are rip offs. I guess it was sort of over the top, but I wasn’t trying to imply that this person said anything more than that it would be unfair for Harry Potter…I’m just sick of reading stories that have nothing in the world to do with Harry Potter and seeing comments from HP fans turning the comments section into a discussion about HP…y’know?

          • Hermione A

I get you, but theres a time and a place to post that comment, and this wasn’t it.

      • Rdh014

“Not a fan of Twilight. Not a fan of HP, but then, I haven’t gotten to finish reading the first book, let alone the series.”
Well then that whole thing is sort of an uneducated comment, isn’t it?

      • Savanah

Bless you for posting this comment. About time someone said something. Every single page I go on has a comment about Harry Potter, you know? It could be an ad for fried chicken and someone would start an entire discussion about Harry Potter.

I’m not dissing the franchise, I’m not even dissing the fans, but could you Potterheads just please stop turning every single thread into a Harry Potter discussion? Please?!

    • http://twitter.com/acjub CK

Ok, I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. But what on earth does this have to with HP? How would an author writing more books be unfair to HP?
I wish people would stop comparing HP and twilight. Heck I wish people would stop comparing anything to twilight. Most books will be better than those book either way..

    • http://twitter.com/WhatTheGrace Grace Nzita

What does this post have to do with Harry Potter?? The world doesn’t revolve around Harry Potter – Don’t get me wrong i love and adore HP but these comparisons are getting so annoying!
We’ve already established that HP and Twilight are two different and separate things!

      • http://twitter.com/HungerGames4all Rae

OK, before everybody starts getting mad at me, all I meant to say was that they could have expanded Harry Potter, but they didn’t. Which is just how it should be. Same with BD. The last film of both franchises were split into 2. And Part 2 told the end of the books. That’s good enough for all of us. More sequels and prequels isn’t necessary.

  • Jen

It’s like a wrung sponge- they could not get anything more out of it if they tried. I mean, the books ended up in a happy ending! No more drama!

  • Fluffyfluffy

I’m so happy for you Stephenie. I hope someday you will finish Midnight Sun cause I loved the draft you posted. But I’m so glad you won’t let Lionsgate ruin Twilight, or tell you what to do.

  • gcw07

I never really was surprised by Lionsgate statement to begin with. Of course they would want to make more movies if more books were written. WB would love to make more Harry Potter movies if more books ever came out. Luckily I don’t think either author has any intention of creating more and they want to do something new. But to be surprised by what they said is just dumb.

  • http://twitter.com/SlySound Brett H

Ready to move on and hoping to actually write something that won’t be the butt of a thousand and one jokes?

  • Corripe Cervisiam

Okay, let’s look at the facts. Rob’s going to be 30 in a few years, and seeing him try to look 17 again would be, quite honestly, rather pathetic. He didn’t look 17 in the first movie, in my own opinion, and yet if they made one in 2014 or 2015, for a few examples?

Now, I’m a fan of the series, sure, but more movies would ruin the series. If they focused less on the Cullens and the Jacob-Bella-Edward love triangle and more on, say, Renesmee and Jacob, on the other hand, maybe branching off on their relationship and possibly a future child might be a decent enough idea.

Not to mention the fact that Meyer stated quite a while back that she was tired of writing vampires and wanted to branch off into different things (‘The Host’ for example). Even if Lionsgate /does/ want her to write more books for Twilight, she shouldn’t have to, nor should she want to. I would understand if she /did/ want to write more, but really? Let’s be honest here.

  • Spacechick055

She get’s “deeply annoyed” a lot it seems. First her overreaction with Midnight Sun, now an overreaction to an obvious statement. Of course they’d want more Twilight movies; did you see the money they brought in? She should have expected that to start with

    • Guest

I don’t think she over reacted about her book being leaked online without her permission. As a writer myself I cannot think of anything worse: our books become our lives, or world, thinking about them day and night, constantly changing this bit, adding that bit, rewriting whole chapters. It would be heartbreaking. So o have to disagree with you on that, but unfortunately I do agree that she should have expected Liongate to want more… :/

    • 7Starrchasers

how was the way she reacted to Midnight Sun an “overreaction”..?

  • notenoughpuff

If they’re that desperate for money, they should get to work on The Host. It was for a completely different audience than that of the Twilight Series. It was Adult Sci-fi versus Young Adult Supernatural.

    • Mia

i think the host has already been picked up by another company. it’s suppose to be out in 2013.

  • Lori1

Quite frankly I’m sick of Stephenie being on her high horse. Stephen King has been writing horror for years. Jackie Collins has been writing about the lives of the Hollywood elite for ages. John Grisham writes about lawyers!!

But Miss Thang doesn’t want to write about vampires anymore. Oh just SHUT UP AND WRITE! Do you really think people are interested in The Host? It wasn’t even a good book!

What she needs to do is crank out 3 more vamp books and STFU! Cha Ching will get her out of her annoying mood guaranteed.

If JK can crank out 7 books about some kid wizard, you can crank out just as many about the vamps. Shut up and get over yourself and just get to typing! There are plenty of stories, Fred, the history of the Volturi andy of the new vamps we are about to see in BD2….shut up and type and make your millions!

    • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

Are you for real? I don’t even LIKE Twilight that much, but what I’m sick of is all this Stephenie hate coming from all angles.
First people hate her for writing the books – which she always said were for people who WEREN’T fans of vampire fiction – and now you are saying that in order to please you and make you stop calling names and swearing about her, she HAS to write more books?
      That’s ridiculous!
Writing isn’t a thing authors do to please verbally abusive ‘fans’, there’s a story, and even if I’m not a fan of it, she’s finished it, she’s moved on, and it’s time you do. They are HER STORIES, she is NOT YOUR PERSONAL AUTHOR, she said the story was done…so the story is DONE.
Jeez, world, give the woman a break!

    • Kaseygrl37

Um….I like the Host much more than Twilight…I realize I’m in the minority but it showed a lot more maturity than “the saga”. Just my opinion!

    • WillowBlood

This is why the Twihards think some Potterheads are jerks. I don’t like Twilight, I’m a huge Potterhead, but that was rude.

      • http://myselfandpotter.blogspot.com/ VideoKilledSeverusSnape

It’s not if your a Twihard or Potterhead, it’s the person itself.

    • HungerPotterFanatic

And this is an example of a twilight fan. This is why they are annoying. Thank you for showing the world what you truly are.

    • 7Starrchasers

Actually the host was a very good book…had more plot than twilight did in all four books..*thats coming from a FAN of twilight*

    • http://twitter.com/WhatTheGrace Grace Nzita

Money isn’t always everyone’s main priority maybe it is for you, but if she feels like she’s done with the series then she’s done. You can’t force someone to write if they don’t believe in what they’re writing – it doesn’t work that way.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Brianne-Bee/1310956568 Brianne Bee

I’m glad to hear that Stephenie is putting her foot down! I dont want the series ruin because of greedy movie excs! It was just ruin the the fanshies,

    • Person

Hun, the series was already ruined on the first page of the first book.

      • Thomas

I’m not a Twilight fan at all but your comment was mean. Keep your opinions to yourself or at least not towards a fan, respect other people’s tastes as you’d like them to respect yours…

        • Alex

Everyone has the right to their opinon

          • Laura

So? There’s a time and place for everything and sprouting off hate for anything unprovoked is just petty.

        • PersonWhoHatesTwilight

If you hadn’t noticed this is a comments section, and I have just as much of a right as you do to post my opinion and that was it. I don’t like twilight and that’s my honest thought. I wasnt trying to be mean, I was stating my and a LOT of other peoples opinions.

      • http://myselfandpotter.blogspot.com/ VideoKilledSeverusSnape

Don’t want to sound rude, but I was lmao when I read this. :D

  • http://twitter.com/Merina2 Merina

    Good for you, Stephenie!

  • dee

He is silly to want this as she has said she will not be visiting vampire any time soon, but I doubt whether she is annoyed. Why would you be annoyed at such a thing? Especially Stephanie who doesn’t have an ego.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=690341156 Andrew Davies-Land

i really hate twilight, but good on her!! standing her ground. Im sure most twihards would agree in saying that anything any other crappy screen writer wouldn’t compare to their much loved source material.

I would hate to see some wanker come in and try to write and produce an 8th potter movie it just would not work (i say 8th because technically it wud be an 8th story as the movies stem from 7 stories)

just let it fucking rest in piece lionsgate you want to bring back a decent film. how about giving us a decent nightmare on elm street sequel WITH ROBERT ENGLUND!! Or even another SAW movie :D

    • http://myselfandpotter.blogspot.com/ VideoKilledSeverusSnape

*peace. Rest in PEACE. Peace not piece. PEACE.

      • http://myselfandpotter.blogspot.com/ VideoKilledSeverusSnape

        Sorry, Grammar Nazi here.

  • LilyLuna

I never thought I’d actually agree with her on something, then again I’m revolted by the 4 existing films….

  • Jason

We are too, Stephenie. We are too.

  • http://twitter.com/itsmeSherryn Sherryn Elizabeth

I’m not surprised she is ready to move on. BD had enough of a weak and wandering plotline, how she could come up with something else from that story arc would be a miracle.
As for the suggestion that Midnight Sun could be made into a movie if released as a book, I just dont think this is possible because it would be 80% the exact same as Twilight, with a few scenes of Edward off on his own added in. Not really enough to justify an entire movie. It is much easier to write a book from the perspective of another person because of 1st person narration, but it is inherently harder as a movie is generally 3rd person, even with narration of characters.

  • http://twitter.com/Michaleon Mimi

I hope she continues The Host though..

  • http://myselfandpotter.blogspot.com/ VideoKilledSeverusSnape

I hate Twilight, and dislike Stephenie Meyer’s writing, but I’m glad she’s doing this. I wish more writers could have done this instead of selling their rights for horrible films. Good for her.

  • Sarah

Meyer is “deeply annoyed” by the suggestion of more Twilight movies? Well guess what: so is the rest of the world’s (sane) population.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000008061767 Justine E Woodard

    HA HA HA

  • Me

What I wonder about is most of the comments are bashing her and her books. So why even come read an article about her if you hate her and Twilight so much. Are we a bunch of closet Twi-hards trying to be tough in a digital world? Lol!

  • Ucla4girl

http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/ Read what she says Feb 22nd, this article is bull.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1629046243 Jonando Rose

twilight needs to die the book series is done so should the movie rid the world of a terrible mistake

  • guest

Though, personally I don’t like her writing (at all) I think that she’s got a lot of confidence to tell a company no, at least she’s doing what she likes. (I didn’t even know she is the one who wrote it. So that’s why I’m here.)
