It was announced this morning by video game maker Adam Atomic that he is developing the official Hunger Games app for iOS!

iOS is the operating system that runs on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

Adam took to his blog to explain what we can expect:

I made it clear to [Lionsgate] right up front that while I was a big fan of The Hunger Games, a copy of Canabalt was out of the question. I pitched them on an original touch-based action game instead. It does feature a running character, but the focus of the game is more on marksmanship and strategy… but we’ll have more to say and show about that later! It’s a small idea, but a tight one too. Almost like a teaser game, in the same way there are teaser trailers. This is usually the part of the discussion where my prospective clients say “ah… I see. Well, if you change your mind…”

We’re definitely excited to check this out. By the sounds of the description it’s quite simple and may not follow the book’s storyline.

We know it’s the official app because The Hunger Games’ CapitolPN Twitter account retweeted the announcement.

What do you hope to see in the game?

I never thought of it but an actually Hunger Games game would be awesome.  You could be Katniss or just a normal tribute.  You could select your talent and try to beat the obstacles.  That would be sick.

even better if it were made for kinect and it were in first person view O_O now we need to go pitch the idea to lionsgate

So long as the mockingjay doesn’t look like a pokémon like it does in that thumbnail, I’m on board xD

HAHAH you just caught moltres XD

LOL I’ve been staring at it for 5 mins trying to figure out which pokémon it reminds me of. I think its a cross between the avatars for Moltres and Pidgeot from Blue. Not sure xD

If they make an actual Hunger Games video game I’ll be happier

This may just be me, but I can’t help but think that turning the Hunger Games into an actual game that you play takes away from the message and the horror inherent in the books’ original intent. However, I will probably still download it. ;)

It’s a book! If people are going to start taking it seriously, do you want us to feel bad when we read the book? I  don’t whenever Lionsgate tries to promote the film everyone goes “That goes against the book”

When details change that’s fine (movies and books are different mediums and people who harp on the details bother me as well), but when the message changes there is something wrong……There is irony when a story about horrifyingly evil games become a game (albeit watered down, as no actual lives are at stake) that we play ourselves. The movie and the book put us in the character’s shoes so we can experience their emotions when being forced to play in a gladiatorial game where everyone watches them kill human beings. This is the difference between the mediums: in the films/books the point is to learn from this post-apocolptic societie’s mistakes….not emulate them as you would in a game version. If we actually play the game ourselves, with no actual threat to our lives, we start to forget the real purpose of the series which is that the games are an evil perversion of the current media obsessed culture…….and not fun games where you try to win so you can gain some more points…..And yes, when a book has a message as profound as the Hunger Games Series does (which is why they are great)…it should be taken seriously. I would like to ammend my previous statement: I will not buy this game if it is anything like people are suggesting in this comment section.
