To celebrate Valentine’s Day this week, The Mortal Instruments author Cassandra Clare released a new, steamy scene from City of Lost Souls.

From her blog:

Jace set what he was holding down on the windowsill and reached out to her. She came to lean against him, and his hand slid up under her t-shirt and rested caressingly, possessively, on the small of her back. He bent to kiss her, gently at first, but the gentleness went quickly and soon she was pressed up against the glass of the window, his hands at the hem of her shirt — his shirt —

“Jace.” She moved a little bit away. “I’m pretty sure people down there in the street can see us.”

“We could …” He gestured toward the bed. “Move…over there.”

She grinned. “You said that like it took you a while to come up with the idea.”

When he spoke, his voice was muffled against her neck. “What can I say, you make my thought processes slow down. Now I know what it’s like to be a normal person.”

“How … is it?” The things he was doing with his hands under the t-shirt were distracting.

“Terrible. I’m already way behind on my quota of witty comments for the day. ”

I just about swooned when I read this the other day! She also posted a deleted scene with Will finally telling his secret to Jem. It takes a lot to make me obsessive like this, but Cassandra Clare totally brings out my inner fan girl. I have been reading both series nonstop for almost a month now!

just finished reading fallen angles yesturday and im a little confused. at the end (spoiler) sebastian comes back and says that he and jace are one, does that mean that he is controlling jace? and if so doesnt that mean its him kissing clary in the scene above but jaces body? if not, im really confused! Help please!!

Since that was pretty much the last line of the book, right now the answer to your question is, “No one but Cassie Clare and her editor knows.” Here’s my personal theory (and it’s full of SPOILERS for people who haven’t read Fallen Angels yet)…

So Lilith was controlling (not quite possession because Jace still has control over his thoughts) Jace through that Mark. Lilith is now dead, but because Jonathan (Sebastian’s real name) has Lilith’s blood he can now control Jace. This is all stuff we get in the last few paragraphs of Fallen Angels.

My theory is that Sebastian will choose moments to exert his control over Jace, and that even in moments where that isn’t the case there will be some of Sebastian’s personality traits that will sort of bleed over into Jace’s personality. Hence this moment Cassie gave us where Jace is MUCH more aggressive in his pursuit of Clary than he has been in the past. Jace has always been snarky and smart aleck, and he’s always found Clary desirable so that’s not a surprise. But this is really the first time when Jace goes after Clary without it being a resulting circumstance of one or the other of them getting hurt or attacked or a similarly stressful situation.
