We knew that the Decemberists would have a song titled ‘One Engine’ on the Hunger Games soundtrack, but without any warning, the song was released on iTunes last night! Listen to it below.

The full album tracklisting, featuring Kid Cudi, Miranda Lambert, Neko Case and more, was also released today. See it at this link!

What do you think of the new song? Could you see an instrumental version of this being played during any scene in The Hunger Games? Remember: the film will have both an instrumental score and a soundtrack, so this song will likely not be in the actual movie.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Safe & Sound’ video for the Hunger Games soundtrack is set to debut later today. Watch a preview of it at this link!

    HUNGER GAMES RULE!!!!!

I don’t really see this song fitting into the movie, the mood of the song doesn’t really fit anywhere.  It’s too upbeat and energetic.

I like the song though!  The soundtrack looks like it’s going to be amazing.

This song is interesting because it is more upbeat than what we’ve heard. It will be interesting to see how the film goes, not saying that this song will be in it, but if they put a song with this beat on a companion album i would think there would be some moment that would justify it being on there. Maybe not. I could see the instrumental maybe being in a part in the arena where Katniss is just walking. But i’m happy that the film will have a score, and i am really interested in hearing that as well. Hopefully we have the opportunity to buy the score, and it would be lovely to buy it in stores instead of having to order it online. Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

I LOVE the Decemberists, so really I’m just happy to see a new song from them while they are on a band break :) It’s just an added bonus that it’s connected to the Hunger Games, but really I’m just loving it as a song from my favorite band.

I like it. It still has a folk sound while being more rock… The lyrics are great.

I could see this playing after the Games, when they are showing the highlights.  In the book it says that an uptempo, exciting song in the background, so I think this is a definate candidate.

I can’t imagine them using a song with lyrics in the film, but that’s just me.

I meant as a response to his question, with just the music.  I’m with everyone else on the score issue.  I’m such a soundtrack geek.  :)

          Oh, okay. (:

  • Joey Andrea

I think this is gonna be the music when their on the train? (:

  • Jacob

Maybe this is when they’re training? That’s the only place it fits in.

this song doesn’t really fit in with the movie….

Though it might be too upbeat for certain parts, I can defiently see this in something more like a fading out scene of the train heading to the capital, or her running in the arena. But I’m a Decemberists fan all around, so I’m freaking out with joy they released it.

    I love being a Portlander.
