Speaking on a conference call this morning, Lionsgate’s motion picture group co-chair Rob Friedman told reporters that the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will indeed premiere with The Hunger Games next month.

The news comes following Lionsgate’s purchase of Summit (the studio behind Twilight).

The now merged studio company obviously thinks the two films have very similar audiences. You may remember that the first trailer for The Hunger Games debuted with Breaking Dawn – Part 1 in November.

We’re sure the Breaking Dawn – Part 2 trailer will premiere online before it hits theaters.

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter.

    How lovely.

I am a fan of both series (for completely different reasons, mind you) and I am going to be so incredibly giddy during this movie!! I was gonna go see it either way, but now I have ever more to look forward to. YAY!

    NOOOOOOOOOO…

You’re so abhorred by Twilight, you can’t even sit through 2 mins of it before HG even starts? Gimme a break

      • Zack

No, I just wish they would separate the series!

They’re now owned by the same studio.  This is no surprise. As I said in the post, HG trailer arrived with BD 1 in November.  Corporate synergy FTW

Are Twilight and Hunger Games run by the same studio only because if one cash-cow ends, the other cash-cow is ready to take its place? I use the term ‘cash-cow’ to describe ALL film franchises INCLUDING ‘Harry Potter’. That’s my way of saying there is no originality left in Hollywood today.
In other words, the studio ensures that it keeps filling its own coffers, no matter what.

[Unless, of course, you are a GREAT film-maker who can actually make "FILMS" (Woody Allen - Midnight in Paris, Martin Scorsese - Hugo, and Terrence Malick - The Tree of Life), and NOT "MOVIES" (Michael Bay - Transformers). HP is NOT a FILM, it is a MOVIE.]

Twilight was made by Summit. Hunger Games is made by Lionsgate. The two have recently undergone a merger and are now the same studio. However, when the decision was made to film HG, they were not. And seeing as HG didn’t have half the following Twilight did when they made them, it was a rather bold move to film it. It wasn’t until the trailer released and the film started getting some mainstream buzz that more people actually read the books and it took off. I remember listening to the first few eps of HG Chat where the hosts were actually afraid it might not do well a la Percy Jackson.

And if making movies based on books is a sign of unoriginality, then Hollywood never had any originality to begin with. This kind of thing has been going on for decades. It wasn’t just some idea that LotR and HP came up with. They’ve been doing it a lot longer than that. Remember Jaws? That’s based on a book and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who wouldn’t call that an iconic film. Just cos a film isn’t all artsy and full of deeper truth and weepy meaning doesn’t mean its automatically a bad film. You have a very narrow view of cinema.

            Just sayin’

          • Josh

            That’s ridiculous.

          • Hunger dude

You must be the most stupid person on earth if you think hp is a hollywood movie…. Gimme a break you don’t know ANYTHING!!!!!

Because it won’t let me reply to  Gary65:

Jaws was based of the play Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen, an old old old old story :)
I know because we actually watched Jaws in my English class because we were reading EOP :)

Why? This move helps to boost the corporate success of Hunger Games, which makes it all the more likely that they will turn the rest of the series into movies too. Its highly unlikely that Twilight fans will pay to see a movie, watch the BD trailer and then leave the theatre.

Anything that helps promote HG is cool by me

          • Zack

I understand. I just thought that this would lead people to compare the two series even more now. I actually have no problem with Twilight, I just don’t want the two series being compared.

If this makes HG more successful, I’m all for it!

          • Anonymous

Trust me. They’re going to be compared either way. But who cares about that? All those comparisons are made by ignoramuses who’ve never opened the book in their lives. And more fool them for it :D

  • Jael

  • adrs

Well I guess I’m gonna have a good laugh before HG starts

    • jordan.d

      cheers to that! :)

Nooooo! Why are they trying to ruin my Hunger Games experience!

    • AshQuill77

Don’t worry. The Hunger Games will ruin Twilight. ;)

  • Hermione

I guess I’ll go to the bathroom during that trailer. I won’t let the midnight premiere be ruined by that crap. Twilight = worst series ever with no point.

  • Summer

Great, now put this in the twilight section because im not interested.

  • http://www.rebellionradiopodcast.com Hurley

My, how the tables have turned…

  • Guest

Haha hopefully that’ll be the worst part of the movie & everything after that will be smooth sailing :)

    • Hermione

Lol. Just going for a trailer. While I know some people will do that, we all know thats the most stupid thing ever. Let me pay 20 bucks to go see a trailer!

  • Rae

I think it’s a great strategy because that way we get the Twilight audience for Hunger Games. And I know that some Twi-hards are just gonna go for the trailer. It’s win-win situation either way.

  • Rae

That must mean Catching Fire trailer will come out with BD Part 2!!!  YAYAY…that makes me happy!

  • Skymac96

When is Twilight going to stop piggybacking off the success of better series?

    • lostinthegray

How is showing a trailer before another movie “piggybacking”? They are showing it because both movies have similar demographics.
