Just today, it was announced that Billy Connolly will play the dwarf warrior, Dain Ironfoot, in The Hobbit.

The Dominion Post quotes Peter Jackson:

“We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself,” said Sir Peter.

“With Billy stepping into this role, the cast of The Hobbit is now complete. We can’t wait to see him on the battlefield.”

Past performances of the Scottish comedian include The Last Samurai, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Muppet Treasure Island.

The first installment of The Hobbit will be released on December 14 of this year.

What do you think of Connolly’s new role?

Love it! He is brilliant and I hope he gets to inject some light humour when appropriate too. Just when I thought I couldn’t be more excited about the Hobbit.

When I heard about this (Sir Ian McKellen posted it on his Facebook this morning) I totally squealed. I LOVE Billy Connolly and his acting/stage presence! He will be absolutely perfect in this! Makes me even more excited to see him on his UK Spring tour soon :D Like Daughter of Eve said, just when I thought I couldn’t be more excited about the Hobbit!!!
