Josh Hutcherson says ‘Twilight’/'Hunger Games’ comparison invite unfair box office expectations

Although he’s out to promote his new film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, you’d guess he’s actually on a Hunger Games marketing campaign. That’s because lots of interviews about his March film continue to appear!

In this newest one, Hutcherson tells Digital Spy he doesn’t like the Twilight VS Hunger Games comparisons because it means people will be comparing the two at the box office.

He’s right. The Hunger Games fan base, although growing fast, is still relatively small. The first movie is not expected to get Twilight sized box office numbers, it’s unfair to compare the two in that way at the moment.

I really dislike that it is even compared to twilight. It is nothing like twilight!
This books is about how horrible a society can become with power hungry leaders and brainwashed people. It’s about survival and death.
Twilight is about how important it is to be with the really hot guy and how sex will make you pregnant….

He’s being very naive, this isn’t his first film, he should know that movies are always compared to other movies. Both franchises are Young Adult novels, of course they’re going to be compared. Do they have the same plot and characters? Of course not. But Lionsgate wants to make THG into the next teen franchise, this isn’t a secret. Fans who try to tell themselves otherwise are just living in denial.

And the HG fanbase is about what the Twilight fanbase was when that movie was released, so the comparison is fair.
