After premiering at Sundance Film Festival this weekend, the rights for Lisanne Pajot and James Swirsky’s Indie Game: The Movie have been optioned by producer Scott Rudin and HBO.
The network plans to develop the project as a half hour fictional series. Originally reported to be produced as a comedy, an idea that seems to clash with the original trailer for the film, the filmmakers have reassured followers of the movie that is not the case. “HBO has optioned IGTM for the basis of a (fictional) series,” Pajot and Swirsky write on the Indie Game: The Movie Facebook page. “It is NOT a comedy. It is NOT a sitcom.”
Indie Game: The Movie follows four independent game developers as they create their games and release them into the world.
