Although this has been suggested before, many people all over the internet still claim to ‘know’ who ‘A’ is because they’ve read the Pretty Little Liars book series. It has now been confirmed by the cast of the show that ‘A’ is not who it is in the books.

At long last, the cast of Pretty Little Liars have admitted to knowing who ‘A’ is after they completed filming the season 2 finale.

“It’s not what it is in the books, to throw off the audience a bit. It was so cool,” Ashley Benson told Entertainment Weekly. “I think some fans have a good idea, but you’ll see as the season progresses.”

Benson also added:

“[It] was one of my favorite episodes we’ve ever filmed. Everybody is masked, so you don’t know who’s who and that makes it creepy.”

Lucy Hale had this to say on finding out ‘A’s’ identity.

“We didn’t get the script, and it was a complete cold read for the whole cast. We didn’t know what to expect, but once they read it, everyone’s jaw was on the floor. Ian [Harding] is always making commentary anyway in table reads, but when they read it, he just started laughing because he couldn’t believe it. But we were all in unison, yelling out different things. I think it’ll make people want to go back and watch the show from the beginning because there are clues and it all kind of makes sense.”

So how can we find out who ‘A’ is?

“You have to watch every episode to understand it, from the pilot through now, and then it will make sense. Everything is linked,” Keegan Allen says. “The writers did a really, really good job of connecting everything and making it realistic. … I’ve always had my ideas of who A is, but everybody is shocked.”

Are you disappointed that ‘A’ won’t be the same person/s as it was in the books?

  • Ashley

I don’t know who it could be, but I’m glad that ‘A’ won’t be the same person as it was in the books. In the books, it was more predictable. Now, I have no idea!

  • Jamielynn2511

If we find out at the end of the season who A is, what does that mean for the future of the show?! They’re won’t be anymore of the mystery left!!! And on a side note…when Ian Harding was laughing when he found out who A was, is that because it turns out to be EZRA?! hmmm…

    • Claire

They kept the series going in the books when A was revealed, I’m sure they will be able to keep it going with the show, too. In the books a new A appeared a few months later I believe.

  • DreamNox58

I don’t think it will be Ezra, maybe he just found it funny because his guess was way off?  My thought has always been maybe Spencer or Melissa or even Arias dad because Alison saw them too.  However, I only have to wait a bit more to find out.

PEOPLE!!!! It can’t be Ezra or Melissa or anyone like that cos A was born in 1994. Therefore, A is the same age as the girls.

My money’s on Maya having something to do with it. No idea if she’s A or not but she’s involved.

    • Ally Schnier

I’ve always thought Maya had something to do with it too! I mean, when we first met her, she was moving into Ali’s house and had found all her stuff. I’m still suspicious.

    • Candice

How do you know ‘A’ was born in 1994?

      • Anonymous

In the scene where Dr. Sullivan calls Emily and tells her she knows who A is, you can see her rifling through her notes on A. If you look closely, you can see the part of the date of birth of whoever the file belongs to, which ends in 1994. Assuming Dr. Sullivan guessed A correctly, this would mean that A if 17-18 years old, the same age as the girls. Thus ruling out Melissa, Ezra, Jason(I think. I don’t know the age difference between him and Alison), the parents and anyone not still in school.

after this week episode i feel like noel and mona have something to do with it i dunno A is probably more then 1 person

  • Dlmarvin05

Nope! Because it will finally prove to everyone that they were wrong and wasted their time trying to “ruin” it for people who hadn’t read the books ;)

I have gradually been getting more and more upset about how the series doesn’t match up with the books. This just takes the cake though. I just wish that they could do SOMETHING right. Ugh, stupid writers. So annoying.

    • Dlmarvin05

Um, if it would have been exactly the same as the book, the idiots that think they have the right to ruin things for people (aka some of the PLL book readers) would have already ruined the whole show for people who hadn’t read the books. That would have been completely unfair. This is the better choice. No question

if the writers went along with the book 100% then what would be the point of the tv series? cos everyone would know what happens….IF the writers went 100% with the books…Toby would be dead and would have never dated Spencer, Maya would be alive and Emily would have been the one who would have been sent away because of her homosexuality. You know how it reveals that Ali might have been pregnant, well in the books Emily was pregnant! Also Mona would be dead since in the books she dies from the fall that he see onscreen in the finale of season 2. Ezra and Aria’s relationship wasn’t so serious in the books it was actually non-existent it was more like a small fling and Ezra was arrested for it. And then there’s the twin theory that fans still talk about….I hope the writers DON’T stick to the twin theory..we have seen layers of Ali in the tv series and i don’t wanna see that being ripped away by some psycho twin….I have a Theory that someone is the series has a evil twin tho…could be Ezra could be someone else….I think that because the writers like taking what happens in the books and giving the ending to some other character, based on what we have seen….If the writers stoke to the books it would be bland, predicable and boring. They made it more interesting this way…I love this show, It’s One of the few shows that I can watch over and over again without getting bored…I find myself banging myself against a wall screaming “OMG, how could I not have seen that the first time”

I like that it’s different from the books. From what I’ve heard, in the books A is Ali’s evil/psycho twin that no one knew existed.. Is that right? If so, it seems a bit like a cop-out to me. I’d much rather it be someone that we actually know. Someone that makes me so shocked that I feel like I have to rewatch it all just to make sense of it!

    • kayyebs

no in the books A is Ali. she killed her twin.

    • Lisa-Maree Dalbock

In the books the Ali that people knew is actually courtney, and the real Ali killed coutrney and the real ali is A

  • Prettyfairy1996

PLL as a whole is something that I hate to love. so A is a different person. meh.

  • Beebeee232

The man behind this successful series is really amazing!!He has a unique style in providing twist. I am a great fan of this series. I really love the cast..It is actually a power house cast..I so love their looks, their outfits, their dialogues. I even shared it to my students!!It is really amazing!!

  • christine

i will start watching the series again from the start for clues :)) i need to find out hwo a is…i’m sure it’s not hwo we all suspect, so i have two theories about hwo a might be:
    a) maybe the one who is most injured by this “a” so it can have a solid alibi, one of the most innocent pearsons in the show
    b) or somenone hwo seems to have nothing to do with it but is always there

  • christine

it has to be the girls…with a twisted mental disorder so thtat they try to deny what happened and block all teh memories…why else would the psychiatrist call them when she said she knows hwo a is?she should have called the police not the girls…

  • madeyln
