A Green Arrow pilot is in the works at the CW, but unfortunately for Smallville fans, Justin Hartley (pictured) is not attached to the project.

We’re surprised to see anyone other than Hartley take the roll—he was a series regular, playing Green Arrow, on the CW’s Superman adaptation Smallville for almost five years. It’s unclear whether Hartley wasn’t interested or if the network is trying to avoid the appearance of a Smallville spin-off.

Warner Bros. TV is working on the pilot for the DC Comics adaptation, which is being co-written by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, both of whom will produce with Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe, The Vampire Diaries), Variety reports. Berlanti and Guggenheim were both attached to the recent Green Lantern film, while Kreisberg has previously worked on the Green Arrow comics.

The original comic, launched in the ’40s, surrounds Oliver Queen, a billionaire politician by day and crime-fighting archery expert superhero (Green Arrow) by night.

Since Hartley is out of the question, who do you think could best fill the Arrow’s signature green suit? Are you looking forward to this adaptation?

I think it could be interesting and definitely has potential, but I don’t know how I feel about someone other than Justin Hartley portraying him.

      Agreed.

I think i t depends on whether or not it is a Smallville type approach to the material. If this is a teen Green Arrow, then it does seem silly not to launch based on Hartley’s experience and appeal. However, if they are going for the curley goateed Green Arrow – the iconic Green Arrow – then I’d like to see Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Peter Facinelli, Adrian Pasdar, or David Anders given consideration. If Fringe goes down, then Joshua Jackson will have nothing to do.

I don’t know how I feel about this. I guess it’s just kind of weird since Oliver Queen was Smallville for quite some time and seeing him portrayed by someone else would be kind of strange. But I guess if they want to start younger, I understand…But I guess I also wish that they had gone further ahead with the Raven idea.
