Today, an updated version of the ’50 Greatest Harry Potter Moments’ was aired in the UK. It saw the inclusion of scenes from the final two films and a running commentary from Robbie Coltrane.

You may remember that this special originally aired in July, but did not include anything from Part 2.

The full list can be seen below. Particular moments of incidence are, in my opinion; No. 2, which is the final duel between Harry and Lord Voldemort, taken from Deathly Hallows – Part 2 and No. 47, which included interesting insight from JK Rowling, wherein she mentioned how she had felt when first seeing the real-life Mirror of Erised: “I remember turning and looking into the Mirror and seeing myself: a published author, in a British Film Studio, where my books were being adapted to films… It sent a shiver down my spine”.

Do you agree with this order? Or perhaps there were moments that you feel ought to have been included, yet were passed over? Share your thoughts in the Comments section below.

You can see the original Greatest 50 Moments list (which aired in July and did not include scenes from Part 2) right here. You’ll notice some big differences – for example, the Death of Dumbledore moved from #2 in July to #5 tonight.

  • Mia

no epilogue or no neville’s speech after they thing harry has died. or when neville destroys the final horcrux. there are plenty more that im sure im missing.

a few of them on the list dont deserve to be there… like 18: the arrival of beauxbatons. does not deserve to be in the top 25

    • Kaitlyn

Agreed.  I also don’t think Ron and Hermione’s kiss was more important than Dumbledore’s death.

      • Average teenager

I believe it was chosen because so many people had wait for that moment for so long.

    • Mia

i mean think not thing… my bad

    • Clive

The thing to remember is that this isn’t a passionless list of the statisticly best moments, A lot of the list exists for a narrative, 50 for instance would probably have been the first moment shown, regardless of how long the list was, be it the top 100 or top 10 it’s probably the best way to open the story.  Scene’s I’d have liked to have seen would probably be Harry’s possession in OOTP, and the scene where Fred and George comfort a kid in OOTP.

      • Eoin

I forgot about that scene but now that I remeber it was soooooooooo good.

      • Average teenager

The scene with Fred and George was on there if you watched it.

    • Average teenager

If you watched it, Neville killing Nagini is included.

  • WrittenByArose

if ron and hermione’s kiss was done right in the last film, it should have been in the top 3… otherwise i pretty much agree – appart from the Beauxbaton arrival!! wtf!!! as if that would be number 18!!! -.-

    • Morsmordre79

I agree! The Beauxbatons thing makes no sense. If they needed another GOF moment, they should have used the scene when Mad-Eye is revealed as actually being Barty Crouch Jr. At least that was somewhat vital to the plot.

  • http://twitter.com/Brianna_ED Brianna Dallal

The part where Harry goes into the Forbidden Forest, best part ever! It should really be in there, with the resurrection stone and all! And then the epilogue should definitely be on there somewhere…

  • Jdacul1

    Lol: “Submitted by Harry Potter”

  • Jdacul1

I understand that they can’t include all, but if I had to choose more to include, it’d be:

    The Prince’s tale sequence
    The Forest again scene
    Neville kills Nagini
    Snape’s monologue to the school

    • Average teenager

Neville killing Nagini is in it if you watched it.

    • Allison L.

i feel the princes tale is epic in the fact that it clears up a major story line…so is defiantly should be in there!

Also the forest again was great.

All of these should have some place on the list!

  • Jason

‘This post was submitted by Harry Potter’ O_o

  • http://twitter.com/MaybeDavey David Weckesser

They totally forgot Harry arriving at The Dursley’s house. That should’ve been on the list!

    • Average teenager

It says right there. 36. Harry’s left at Privet Drive. ._.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joey-Mangum/1820064015 Joey Mangum

We’ll just have to agree to disagree on the order and existence of a lot of these things on the list… ;D

  • Morsmordre79

I find it comical that Harry’s kiss with Cho made the list, but none of the three he had with Ginny did. :p

    • Jason

I think it was because that was Harry’s FIRST kiss and therefore a landmark, and it didn’t exactly matter who it was. It could’ve been Dobby and it would’ve still made the list.

      • Morsmordre79

Yes, I’m aware of that. I was merely making a reference to the fact that despite Ginny being Harry’s eventual wife, every “romantic” moment they had together in the films was crap.

(However, one could argue that one’s first kiss shared with their true love is just as much of a landmark, if not more, than one’s first kiss ever.)

      • Mary

Harry kissing Dobby would have most definitely made the list whether it was Harry’s first kiss or not. LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/ron.santos Ron Angelo Santos

snape’s epic speech in the great hall in DH part 2 deserves to be in the top 10

  • rcw

Statues- when Minerva enchants the suits of armour and Molly, Slughorn and Flitwick begin protecting hogwarts.

Also when Hermione obliviates her parents, such a good scene.

  • Stan

That awful, awful dance in the tent certainly doesn’t belong on this list.  Now if there were a list of the 50 Worst Scenes . . .

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000198014874 Tomi Saine

Wow, I think the dancing scene should be in the top 15 or something. It certainly is one of the best moments in the series. How could you even hate a scene that’s so tender and loving while there’s a horrible war going on?

      • Stan

It’s an awful scene because of what Yates, and Kloves, and Emma were trying to convey in the scene.  Yates said in an interview, “There’s a moment in the film where Harry and Hermione dance for the first time. It’s full of proper sexual tension because they’re both teenagers and they’re at that stage where Ron’s left and there’s a sort of intimacy between them. So there are all sorts of corners that you turn because they’re young adults. And turning those corners in the real world is actually quite fun.” Emma said, “The way that Dan and I played it was there was the possibility there could be something else between Hermione and Harry,” the 20-year-old said. “I dunno, I feel like maybe there could have been something there.”

Maybe if they hadn’t spent so much time and energy on something that was so non-canon, they could have done a better job depicting the actual canon relationships.

    • Average teenager

It was meant to be horrible. Harry and Hermione aren’t meant to be dancing experts, they were meant to be awkward.

  • Anonymous

“Snape’s Death” in the top 3 is my favorite bit!

  • http://ipresentyoutheworld.tumblr.com Shana Debusschere

    The Resurrection Stone
    The Prince’s Tale

  • http://profiles.google.com/ginevra.red andreida yofiandari

wow, another reason that show how hard it is to be a harry/ginny fan, no mention at all, but I like most of the moment in this list, and I really love the top three moment

  • DreamNox58

Makes me miss all the excitement the series has brought to me over the years.  Sure, we all still love it and can get excited about the parks and whatnot, but it wont be the same excitement we get when we hear about a new book or movie.

  • Average teenager

I watched it. Was great. I even saw me on it a couple of times. :D

  • The Golden Trio

Well it’s all great and first sight of Hogwarts i agree. But some of the things in there like number 7 and 8 should have been around the top of the list. But what about the prophecy it should have been on the list

  • Luna97831

maybe i’m just uptight about grammar and stuff but who wrote this? “dementor’s on the train”? “pesky pixie’s of the cornish variety”? harry potter should know better! (just teasing)

anyhoo, the list is perfect, but i’d add the prince’s tale- that has got to be my favourite scene of all the films. that and neville practicing his dancing in the dormitory in movie 4- it just made me love neville that much more.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lorena-Lizarraga/578741378 Lorena Lizarraga

Agreed in some points, but come on, we have been waiting ten years for the most amazing line in the entire series, and it is in 14 place? that would be al least 5 for me ¨Not my daughter, you b—h¨

  • Ppwpearce

The scene where Dobby drops a cake on a guest face in Chamber of secrets that was funny

Philosophers stone Hagrid gives Vernon a pigs tail that was funny

    • Morsmordre79

      Dudley got the pig tail.

  • Maria

I think the 1st meeting should have a higher ranking

    • HP4EVER!

      yeah i agree

  • HP4EVER!

what was so great about the beauxbatons? i like the hermione punches draco one. Definitely in the right spot. The final 10 mak sense and i agree. those are the ones that matter most personally.

  • Peeta Mellark

this stuff is crap cause when harry, ron and hermione first meet should be number two. And the final battle should be no. 1!!!!!!!!!!!!! love you lauren M.  form rooshe… russia ohio …Bye lmfao

  • Anonymous

Totally agree with this list. But where’s Hermione punching Draco on the list?

    • Alohomora

  • Alohomora

I think it’s important to mention – Neville killing Nagini got a rather honourable mention when discussing Moment No. 2.

  • Eoin

I think Dumbledore’s death scene would be no.1 for me because I saw HBP in theatres before seeing any of the other movies or reading any of the books. Up until the point of seeing HBP I thought I would never like Harry Potter. I saw the 6th movie and when Dumbledore fell off that tower I had no idea who he was but all I thought was that a great man had just died. Then all the wizards put up their wands and you saw the faces in the clouds and it was so beautiful. Then I got home and thought I better get reading.

  • kaitlinlovegood

where can you watch it if you dont live in the UK??

  • AvisWizard178

i just dont understand why they didnt wait a bit longer and air the programme once, rather than just confusing the audience.

  • HPfanatic

I agree with everything but what about creeds death? The acting in that Seen was amazing. And walsh rickmen???? When he held dead lily in his arms…. The first time i cryed at an HP movie. It was much better then his death seen.

i cant believe they didnt add the prince’s tale.

  • Anonymous

There are definitely 100 moments that can make this list. But I’m satisfied. More from the final two movies would have been nice, but I agree mostly

  • Alyssa

I liked this list once I started ignoring the order. I mean, #34 does not in any way compare to number #50.

  • http://twitter.com/WhatTheGrace Grace Nzita

There were some good ones but,
    1. ‘The resurrection stone scene (is by far to me the most emotional i have gotten whilst watching a Potter film – except Dobby’s death)2. ‘The Princes Tale’ (it’s just beautiful and sad and brings up so many ‘what if’s’ and Alan Rickman was just perfect)Dementors in the underpass and the arrival of the beauxbatons scene could have easily been replaced!

  • Beckybaby1996

by the time i got to #1 i as crying

  • moonshoespotter1712

    king’s cross? prince’s tale?

I  really enjoyed watching this back in July, but  I didn’t agree with a lot of the moments an/or placing on the list, and I still don’t agree with this updated version. An objective list like this is much more appropriate for casual fans than us super fans, who each have such personal and different individual experiences with the series that we rarely agree with each other, or what anyone else says about the series.

  • House of Black

The Three Brothers Animation deserves to be on the list!

  • eaglesandsnakes130731

why didn’t neville’s speech made the list? that scene was quit moving.

  • Harry Potter

One really good scene is the scene in Half-Blood Prince when the whole school surrounds Dumbledore’s body and they are all raising their wands. That was a very moving scene especially the music that went with it (Dumbledore’s Farewell.)

  • Tbux1

im sorry, but harry vs. voldemort was clearly #1, we waited 12 years to see that battle (which was actually better in the movie than in the book).  we waited 30 min for harrys first site at hogwarts

  • Amanda Guild

What about Fred’s death and Draco hugging Voldemort

  • Eva

Where are Snape’s memories? :-OO :’(

  • cafedumonde

good list but needs the princes tale sequence from deathly hallows part 2, not exactly like book but gorgeously arranged and painstakingly emotional
