Wither, Lauren De Stafano’s debut novel, has been optioned by Prospect Park and Violet House, which is owned by Aly and AJ Michalka.
Wither is set in a dystopian future where girls live to age 20 and men to 25. The story follows Rhine, a girl who is kidnapped and taken to be a wife of the governor’s son. Rhine is a fierce female character who isn’t willing to settle for the hand she has been dealt. Fever, the second book in the series, will release in February.
“Wither,” the first of three novels in first-time writer DeStefano’s “The Chemical Garden” trilogy, was released in March by Simon & Shuster and topped the Barnes & Noble and Publishers Weekly’s young adult bestseller lists.
