Those of you expecting a cheery festive edition of the much loved time-travelling drama might want to stock up on tissues as this years Doctor Who Christmas Special is set to be the biggest tearjerker yet.
Speaking at the Forbidden Planet London, to promote The Brilliant Book of Doctor Who, showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed that the upcoming Christmas Special will reduce viewers to tears.
“For the Christmas Special I think you can expect to cry your eyes out for 20 minutes solidly,” he said, “what else would you want to do on Christmas Day.”
Set during the Second World War The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe will see the Arwell family evacuated to a draughty old house in Dorset where they will meet a mysterious young caretaker in a bowtie.
But Madge Arwell, played by Outnumbered star Claire Skinner is keeping a tragic secret from her two children, Lily and Cyril – their father Reg has been killed returning home.
“She doesn’t want Christmas to become the day that broke their hearts,” Moffat explained.
Will the Doctor give the Arwell family a happy Christmas after all, or will it be the lonely Doctor himself that finds his way home?
