A week or so ago, Jeremy brought you a fantastic review of the brand new Paranormal Activity 3, which is currently in theaters. Recently, I had a chance to watch Paranormal Activity 2, and have a nice tidy review for those of you wondering if you should see it before the third one!
To be fair, I haven’t seen PA3. My friends have been begging me to go but I always make up an excuse (“I have to walk my rabbit!” or “Sorry, I’m making a bologna sandwich, maybe next time!”).
However, I was forced in to watching Paranormal Activity 2 last week and have to say that it’s a pretty good movie. Last year, the same group of friends and I watched the first Paranormal Activity which was actually really scary.
In comparison, I would say that Paranormal Activity 2 is a little tiny bit more suspenseful, but kind of confused me a little more. The movie seemed less driven by the plot and more focused on the spook-factor. What’s a “spook-factor” you ask? It’s where the movie is more set up on scaring the bejeesus out of you by having things pop out rather than actually being horrifying. I found myself covering my eyes in anticipation of what could possibly happen rather than what was actually happening. A door slamming is a lot scarier in Paranormal Activity 2 than it is in any other movie, is what I mean.
From what I’ve heard, PA2 really seems to setup the end of the story with PA3 (which is actually the beginning). Everyone I know has said PA3 is the scariest of them all, but PA2 is definitely right up there.
I won’t ruin the movie with details of any scenes but for those of you who haven’t seen it: the kitchen scene…you know THE kitchen scene…yeah I had to go to the bathroom after that one.
Ultimately, I highly suggest getting a group of friends together and watching this movie. Part of the fun was just watching my friends’ reactions to the tiniest little things! THis movie is currently available on Netflix streaming too, so some of you don’t even have to go out and buy it!
