Thanks to ‘The Lion King 3D’ success, Disney announces slate of 3D re-releases

Playing off the wild success of The Lion King 3D, Disney has announced several films which’ll be hitting theaters once more in 3D format!

- Beauty and the Beast 3D: 1/13/2012
- Finding Nemo 3D: 9/14/12
- Monsters Inc. 3D: 1/18/13
- The Little Mermaid 3D: 9/13/13

Very interesting move! Will you go see these films in theaters once they’re back? We’re particularly excited for The Little Mermaid.

As much as I LOVE all these films, I’m not sure I’d be willing to pay the outrageous 3D prices just to see them on the big screen again

I think this is a fantastic idea. Plays on peoples nostalgia for these movies, and introduces them to a new generation. Great business move for Disney to make millions and millions by barely doing anything. But you know every studio is going to jump on this and that could make it irritating. Nothing like seeing a movie on the silver screen though, and I think movies that are special to a huge number of people it is awesome to play them in theaters again; there are a bunch of movies I love and would go see in the theaters again just to have the experience.

SO EXCITED. WOW. I don’t care if this is an attempt to cash in on 3-D, I adore these movies and would love to be able to see them on the big screen again, plus it’s a great chance for a new generation to see them. This is why I went to see Lion King. It’s not my favorite Disney movie, but I really wanted it to do well so I could see others in theaters, Little Mermaid being my priority. SO hugely excited.

This is a much batter idea than the stupid “Disney Vault” I’m sure they will make way more money, and we get to see our favorite Disney movies on the big screen again! It’s a win-win scenario. I saw Lion King and I can’t wait to see Nemo! Great idea Disney!

When my friend and I were watching Lion King 3D the other day, they had one of the promo things where Andrew G was in Hollywood Blvd. before the movie and there was an ad there on one of the signs behind him for Beauty and the Beast 3D. We were sitting in the movie theatre flailing because we were super excited.

Boo!!! This 3Ding of movies, some hand drawn that weren’t even meant to be three dimentional should never be made in 3D. It’s stupid!! Has anyone who’s actually seen the Lion King in 3D actually amazed by the 3D effects? I’d much rather disney focus their attension on new movies, and if they feel a need to re-release movies, please just do it imax. 3D is crap.

  Yes, 3D is crap. You’d be delighted to know that because of modern technology, you could just remove one of your eyes with a tea spoon and experience the world in crystal clear 2D!

I *have* to see ‘The Little Mermaid”. I adored that as a child. I wouldn’t mind seeing “Monster’s Ink” either. I saw it when it was originally in theaters and I had a doll of Boo that I took with me. :]

I am excited to see the movies in theaters again, but I do not want them in 3D. That’s just a gimmick to make more money, but the quality is terrible. The picture in a converted 3D movie is not nearly so clear as the original. I hope they give the option of these in 2D as well…

*sigh* They just don’t get it, do they? Has it really not occurred to them that everyone is going to see these movies again on the big screen because they’re great movies?? And who doesn’t want to see their favourite films in the cinema again? The stupid 3D has nothing to do with it – it’s a cheap gimmick that does nothing to improve classic 2D animated films like this. Just a quick glance at the comments shows that. People are excited to see things like ‘The Little Mermaid’ or ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in the cinema, but most people I’ve talked to aren’t even going to bother with the 3D at all.

I really, really hate 3D but I don’t even care – I’m going to see The Lion King this weekend and will most definitely see Beauty and the Beast when it comes out just for the joy of watching them in the big screen again. :)

Cool but I want to see Aladdin, it’s my favorite Disney movie ever. And the scene in the Cave of Wonders would be awesome in 3D. I didn’t see Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast in the theater the first time around.
