Doctor Who fans are going to have to be patient until fall 2012 for the start of the next series. Is the Christmas Special enough to tide fans over?
Doctor Who Magazine has officially announced what many fans have been speculating about for months given the side projects that Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill have been doing/are about to do. There simply would not be ample time for the three returning stars to film a full 13 episode series (though two holiday specials are possible), and get that series on the air in spring 2012. So, series number seven will not be on the air until the fall of 2012…wait for it…in the UK. No word what the US lag, if any, will be.
The only future item with a firm future date is the 2011 Christmas Special.
Doctor Who TV has speculated what we are likely in for given the filming situation which won’t commence full-time until spring 2012.

Also of great interest is how does the 50th anniversary special fit into all of this, who will make a guest appearance, and what will that special look like?
For those of us in the US, hope springs eternal that series 7 will continue to air on BBC America the same day that it does in the UK, and we won’t got back to the days when we were getting episodes months later. Perchance if we are really lucky we’ll also be afforded all the online extras that the UK viewers get without the region blocking and have them available not days later if at all! If you haven’t checked it out, you really want to look at a FANTASTIC piece submitted by one of our Hypable readers that addresses the issue of scheduling lag.
So my fellow Whovians, what do you think of the scheduling? Do you want more of an elongated story arc along the lines of River Song, or do you want a return to an episodic show?
We want to hear your thoughts on this topic!
