The author, who is producing both Breaking Dawn movies, is now signed on to produce a new romantic comedy.

The mind behind Twilight is now attached to produce a movie called Austenland, which is based off of the book of the same name by Shannon Hale.

The movie sounds…interesting:

“a woman whose obsession with the Pride and Prejudice character Mr. Darcy is so extreme that it is hurting her love life. But after making her way to an Austen-themed English resort, she eventually falls for an actor playing Darcy.”

We’re not sure how great of a movie this sounds, but maybe Stephenie will bring something to the table? The movie is set to star Keri Russell, Bret McKenzie, Jane Seymour, and Jennifer Coolidge.

What do you think? Will Stephenie be able to produce a non-Twilight movie?

I don’t know about the Stephenie Meyer thing, but Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel of all time, so I’m definitely excited about this plot and a movie being made!

didnt she already do this with Twilight? the entire franchise is a joke LOL

    • Mel823

      No she actually didn’t.

      • Gabby

She is a producer on the films.

        • Thecoolguy4ever

she is only producing BD 1 and 2 which is directed by an OSCAR-winner, so i don’t think it will be a joke

            M. Night Shyalman is an OSCAR- nominee too- nough said.

I have to check out this novel. It seems to have a good enough cast. I wonder if Colin Firth will make a cameo.

Ugh. I like Twilight and I like Stephenie Meyer, and I ADORE Pride and Prejudice, but I’m super not sure about this one. Looks like a movie I’ll download to be honest.

    Well that will be terrible.

I read the Austenland book a couple years ago and really liked it. I think it will be a fun movie and it looks like the casting is great. It’s definitely a chick flick, but I hope it does well. Shannon Hale is one of my favorite authors…. one worth checking out while waiting for Stephenie’s next book! :)

    Dear God…

No. No no no no no please, no. I have a horrible feeling that this would ruin the perfection of Pride and Prejudice. But to be honest I think I would prefer Meyer to produce rather than write.

I’m a big P&P fan too but I liked the Austenland novel. It doesn’t try to be the same as Pride and Prejudice. It’s just another romantic comedy/chick lit novel. Fluff, but fun to read. The above description is inaccurate too… there is no actor playing Darcy, just someone with a personality similar to his. I guess I’m trying to say this movie just might be good… Even for die-hard Austen fans!

Pride and Prejudice contains some of the most beloved characters of all time, and characters that are personally close to my heart.  I really have a bad feeling about this film if Stephanie is given ANY input in the creation of it. Although the cast seems great, I love Bret Mckenzie (GO!! FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS!!!), Keri Russell is a great and seasoned actress (not some model-esque teeny bopper) and Jane Seymour and Jennifer Coolidge are both great character actors. However, I fear the sappiness that may encumber a movie about Pride and Prejudice, especially with Stephanie involved.  If you want to see a great movie, see Lost in Austen.  It’s a great BBC miniseries who has read the book so many times that she actually opens a door to the world of Pride and Prejudice and messes the story line up.  It’s very cute and funny, with a much better premise than this movie.

    I think this is cool!
From the Official Guide we know that Shanon Hale and Stephanie are very close freinds and they have both written books related in some way to Jane Austens work, its obvious they both love her. I think Stephanie WILL do justice to her freinds book Austenland, and since they both love Jane Austen, I think they will both do her work justice too.
It makes sense for Stephanie to be involved in her freinds work because she is farther into the movie buisiness than Shannon and is perhaps Shannons link to greater control over how her work is used in the movie ( because we all know how authors work can be mistreated – see Twilight movie).
I think the film will probably flop as the concept sounds a bit too wacky and cheesy and predictable, but I think it was worth a try for Stephanie, and I think that any contribution she makes to the film will only improve an already doomed to fail plot.
I hope though that Stephanie does not forget her work as an author and take up a career in the movie business! She is an author firstly and us twihards crave her work, it would be a great disappointment to lose her to the film industry.

a lot of you guys are forgetting that Twilight (book 1) was based on Pride and Prejudice… what i want to know is why she can’t build on another inspiration here I mean can we say Bridget Jones, You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle  and countless of others are based (with a twist) on Pride and Prejudice (though i love bridget jones cause it actually had a darcy).  Way to think outside of the box Meyer.

Well…let’s see. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows split in two for smart reasons. So Breaking Dawn does that. JK Rowling produces the last two movies… So Stephenie Meyer does that. The last installment of Harry Potter is in 3D…Same with Twilight. Get where I’m going with this? Twilight is such a copy cat franchise. As of now it doesnt have ONE box office record. I can’t believe Twilight can even be considered literature. It embarrasses books everywhere.

As a fan of both books, i can understand the “copy-cat” theme here. But really, i’d say it’s more money-hungry studios wanting to capitalize on something that is doing well. If HP did well with 3D and such (which i think is a waste of money by the way.. i did not see HP this way) then they will do the same with the Twilight series because it benefits them. Anything to make money.

And i agree, though i read Twilight first and i did enjoy it, with time i’ve come to realize that in the long run the story does not hold up and HP is utterly incredible. I still think of it fondly, in the same way that you would a good friend and such. Twilight, not so much. Thought i had a good run of enjoying the story. But true, it’s not hight literature.

Sounds good to me ! She’s a smart lady and POTTER FANS GO AWAY AND GET A LIFE ! Potter is over so go cry in a corner. Love the Potter books, cast and author but the DIE HARD FANS ARE ANNOYING AS HELL !

I think it sounds great! As one who few here who has actually READ Austenland, I feel like it’s a good next step for Stephenie. She’s always talked about how Jane Austen is one of her inspirations and favorite others to read and re-read. I think this is a personal project for her that excites her (as we know, she’s a bit vampired out right now). No, Austenland is no where near the level of the actual Jane Austen books, but it’s what the title of this post says–a romantic comedy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lildollface1984 Liliana Alves

Well… Meyer isn’t really a writer, so perhaps this title of producer is better fitting to her and her talents.
